One of the best known Blackface ewes in the country led a top quality line-up of livestock at Abington Show, when John Campbell and Sons' show ewe from Glenrath, Peebles, was tapped out as overall champion of champions.
Despite some horrendous thunder plumps, the Glenrath ewe shown by Steven Renwick and Donald McDiarmid, looked every bit a champion when selected by the overall judge, Jimmy Sinclair, Crookston, who presented the reserve honours to the lead horse, Dolly Mixture, a seven-year-old Welsh Cob-type mare ridden by Nicky Dall, Hillhouse Farm.
It was very much a ladies day for the reserve supreme sheep, when Karen Wight, Midlock, beat the boys, taking the blue and white sash with her Texel champion, a home-bred gimmer by Springwell Wallaby that has already made her presence felt at Lesmahagow and the National Show at Biggar.
