Aberdeenshire beef and sheep farmer, Lloyd Fowlie, certainly made his presence felt at John Richardson's dispersal of beef cattle from Ghyll House, Appleby, staged at Penrith auction mart, buying many of the lead priced lots including the sale leader at £6200.

Star attraction and joining a lorry load of cattle back to Guise of Tough, Alford, was a six-year-old Limousin cross British Blue cow with her May-born Limousin cross calf at foot by the French-bred Rossignol, which made £6200.

Mr Fowlie also went to £6000 for a similarly aged British Blue cross cow with February-born Melbreak Hero-sired heifer calf at foot. This female changed hands back in calf to the same sire.

A further four lots headed north on the same lorry to Alford, including sales at £5800, £5200, £5000 and £3300.

Dearest of these at £5800 was another six-year-old, a Limousin cross with her three-month-old Limousin cross heifer calf at foot by Melbreak Hero.

Selling at £5200 was a four-year-old British Blue cross with three-month-old Rossignol-sired heifer calf and at £5000 was the four-year-old British Blue cross cow and former show heifer, Double Trouble.

The last or Mr Fowlie's big purchases at £3300 was a five-year-old British Blue cross cow, while her heifer three-month-old Limousin cross heifer calf made £2600 to Welsh producer, RA Elias, Gwynedd.

Outwith the Guise of Tough purchases, trade peaked at £5600 for an eight-year-old Limousin cross cow and former show heifer known as Talulah, which changed hands with four-week-old Limousin cross heifer calf, to Bob Manning Farms, Suffolk.

Local producer, Neil Slack, Newby, Penrith, also forked out the cash, going to £5500 for an 11-year-old British Blue cross cow and breeder of numerous show calves.

Included in this transaction was her June-born Limousin cross heifer calf by Melbreak Hero.

Also heading up to Scotland at £5000 with George Cameron, Acharacle, was a rising four-year-old British Blue cross cow and her nine-month-old Limousin cross bull calf. This one sold back in calf to Rossignol.

And, heading in the opposite direction, Delamore Farms, Norfolk, went to the same money for a nine-year-old Limousin cross cow and former show heifer known as Sister Act. Selling in calf to Penygelly Elite, her May-born Limousin cross bull calf was included in the sale.
