Leading the entry at 4500gns was Irish bull, Silverwood Luis from Norman McKnight, but presented on sale day by sons, Colin and Neil.

This yearling from the 15-strong pedigree herd in Co Down is among the first crop of bulls by Ardmore Gargoyle, a 5400gns purchase at Carlisle, while the dam, Silverwood Gloria, is full of home genetics as she is sired by Silverwood Uro.

Forking out the cash to take Luis home to Bridge Farm, Whandfort, Wilmslow, was the judge, Chris Shenton.

Regular consignor James Weightman, Co Durham, triumphed in the pre-sale show and sold the next top three priced bulls from his Hallfield herd.

Dearest was his reserve junior which made 4400gns to GS and SE Wilson, High House, Marwood, Barnard Castle. Hallfield Jagger, an October 2014-born son of the 8500gns Blackwater Ainsley, is out of Hallfield Canary, a Doncombe Ayers Rock daughter. This makes Jagger a full brother to the Genus bull, Hallfield Fanfair.

Following on at 4000gns was another Blackwater Ainsley son - a bull that has bred bulls to 7000gns - in Hallfield Jude which was knocked down to JJ Horn, Bushy Park Farm, Richmond. Similarly aged, he is out of the Megray Serendipity-bred Hallfield Crystal.

The senior and supreme champion Hallfield Jose, again by Ainsley, then caught the eye of H Griffiths, Cefn Coch, Llanwnda, Caernarfon, to sell at 3500gns. This 22-month-old is out of a Whistley Dollar daughter.

Father and son duo, Alasdair and Ben McSporran, saw their female champion go under the hammer for 1950gns.

Their August, 2014-born Eilean Jackie is by the AI sire Ballygowan Noble, which also bred the 9000gns Eilean Fergus, and out of one of the best cows in the herd, Eilean Bheag, a Druk Lance daughter. Last man in was BT Atkinson, Meadow View, Newland, Ulverston.

Derbyshire producer, P Marsden, Lower Croft, New Mill, then paid 1900gns for the three-year-old Bostock Illusion, from Charlotte Boden, Stockport. Sired by Aaron Edoras, she is out of the Hillhead Anfield-sired Bostock Destiniee, that stood champion at the 2013 Royal Welsh Show with Illusion at foot.
