A SALE of Suffolk females at Beeston Castle attracted a large crowd and drew bidding from all over the UK and from Belgium, where no fewer than 15 sheep sold at four-figure prices and the top price of 2400gns was paid for the pre-sale champion as picked out by judge, Mark Priestley.
That was a three-crop ewe by Burnview Bruno from Bryden Nicolson’s Knockem flock, based at Duns. She sold carrying a single to Sunnyhills The Stig, and Mr Priestley backed his decision to buy her for his Limestone flock, in Northern Ireland.
Also in the money for Knockem was a Lakeview Heeza-sired one-crop ewe bred from a Thurston ewe. She sold to Stephen Cobbald, Acton, Suffolk, carrying twins to the 25,000gns Rhaeadr Rolex.
From the same home, the third prize gimmer, a Strathbogie Jackpot daughter, realised 1350gns when knocked down to Sandra Woodend, Bootle, Cumbria.
Mr Cobbald bought a few of the sale leaders, including the reserve champion from Keith Thomson, of Hilderstone, Staffordshire, for 1800gns.
That was a gimmer by Ballynacannon Blaze that sold carrying a pair to Burnview Hurricane, with a second prize ewe lamb by the Hurricane tup from the same home selling to Mr Cobbald for 2000gns.
Scottish breeder, Jimmy Douglas, consigned a total of 46 females from his Fraserburgh-based Cairness flock, and the dearest of these at 1200gns was a one-crop ewe, by Cairness Diamond Jubilee, which sold to Michael Waycott, Devon.
Another Cairness gimmer, this time by Middlemuir Maserati, sold for 1150gns to S Craft, Glenrothes, Fife.
