THERE was a new record set for cross-bred rams at Kelso when the Ingram family – Willie and Carole together with sons Gregor and Bruce as well daughter Amy – sold two of their own Durno terminal sire breed to £3400 and £2800.

The breed, which was first produced around 10 years ago, originates from Charollais and Texel genetics and many of these are offered at the family's on-farm ram sale at Logie Durno, Pitcaple, Inverurie, and make up some of the 800 or so rams sold by the family each year.

With both heading to new homes across the water in Northern Ireland, the record setter at £3400 heads to work with Messrs Armstrong, while the £2800 tup sold to Karol and Chantelle McElhinney, Glenmore Estate, Cloghan, County Donegal.

Having sold Texels to £6200 and Bluefaced Leicesters to £3200, the team at Midlock, Crawford, Biggar, were back in the money in the cross section when a Beltex cross Chearollais shearling sold to Bob Morris, Over Buttergask, Blairgowrie, for £2000.

Having received his best ever trade for Texels with a shearling to £16,000, Neil Harvey had more to celebrate when he sold his first cross tups at Kelso to £1900, £1800 and £1600. All are by the Beltex sire, Artnagullion Amazon, that was bought at Carlisle for around 2000gns, and out of Texel ewes from the flock at Blackadder Mains, Whitsome, Duns.

The dearer at £1900 sold to R Jones, Wales, while the £1800 and £1600 rams both sold to Bill MacKinnon for Glenalmond Farms, Perthshire.
