AN in-calf heifer set a new centre record of £7000 at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' Thainstone centre, on Tuesday, when the British Blue cross from Harry and Lynwen Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw, sold at that price.
The first prize heifer, which was bought by the husband and wife duo at the Christmas show of fatstock at Orkney Auction Mart from Keith Eunson, Braebuster, made that £7000 when knocked down to Gordon Cameron, Newton Cottage, Acharacle, having been served by the home-bred Emslies Interrogate.
The 60-strong entry from Harry and Lynwen dominated the trade, also reaching £4400 for an in-calf Limousin heifer and £2900 for a Limousin cross.
Overall, a good show of strong, well-bred heifers met a fast selling trade which surpassed sellers' expectations of the 509 head on offer.
A pre-sale show of spring-calving heifers was judged by Matt and James Steel, of Wicker Inn, Crathes, who found their champion in a Simmental cross from J Dow, Upper Sauchen, Inverurie, which they later bought for £2200.
The champion pair were Limousin crosses from the Emslies stable, which sold for £2050 apiece to NG and AM Kydd, Glenhead, Glenisla.
