A TOP price of £1850 or 506.9p per kg was paid for the pre-sale champion at Lawrie and Symington's show and sale of 609 suckled calves and store cattle at Forfar mart, last week.

Tapped out as champion by judge, Ian Millar of Millar Farms, North Lurg, who later bought the animal, was a 365kg Limousin cross bullock from regular consignor, David Cooper of Govals, Kincaldrum, Forfar.

Mr Millar also paid £1220 or 358.8p for the reserve champion and top price heifer, a Charolais cross heifer weighing 340kg from Peter and Allen Drysdale, Middle Drimmie, Blairgowrie.

In all, the sale of 255 suckled calves saw stots average 241.1p and heifers level at 239p.

On the same day, 165 store heifers cashed in at 213.3p and topped at £1310 for a Simmental weighing 635kg from Huntingfauls and 282.1p for a 280kg Limousin from Whitehills. The 189 bullocks peaked at £1250 for a 560kg Limousin from Meadows of Ballied and 263.4p for a 410kg Limousin from Mains of Creuchies, to average 220.4p.
