The supreme champion from MA Barlow topped the Simmental Society’s show and sale at Carlisle at 4000gns.

This was Denzies Invictus, a son of the 12,000gns Derrycallaghan Ernest and out of the consistent breeder Denzies Hannadante 9 who has produced many high priced bulls for the herd. Invictus was purchased by Messrs Fleming and Sons from Kelso.

Two bulls sold for 3000gns, the first of these was Frank Gwynne’s Castlewigg Ifan who had picked up a third prize in his pre-sale sale show class. Ifan was sired by Sterling Empire and out of Castlewigg Ringleader Stella. He was purchased by Messrs McDowall from Glenluce.

At the same money was the second prize winning bull Corskie Ingenuity from WJ and J Green. Ingenuity was sired by 9000gns Auchorachan Farmer and out of Corskie Fancy. The successful bidder on this occasion was Messrs McBryde from Lockerbie.

Messrs Green also sold the next bull in the price rankings, Corskie I’m A Player, for 2800gns. Sired by Dirnanean Bradley, a previous Royal Highland Show champion and out of Corksie Emily, this bull was purchased by Messrs Lyth from Orkney.

The first bull into the ring was Keeldrum Imperator from David Lowry and he got the sale started when he sold for 2700gns to Messrs Vaughan from Brampton. Imperator was sired by Perrywood Fearless and out of Keeldrum Tzigane.

The reserve male champion was Clive Houldey’s Manor Park Idyll, sired by Kilbride Farm Foreman. Idyll went on to sell for 2400gns to Messrs Shield from Whitburn, Tyne and Wear.

Taking the Female and Reserve Supreme Championship was I and M Steele’s Blakewell Dawn’s Isobel sired by Saltire Fortune and out of Blakewell Amy’s Dawn. This maiden heifer went to sell for 1300gns to Messrs Cruickshank from Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire.

The reserve championship was won by the same vendor with a heifer again sired by Saltire Fortune and this time out of Blakewell Samantha’s Bonnie. This was Blakewell Bonnies Isla who also sold for 1300gns to Messrs Cruickshank.

A further four maiden heifers were forward all from Messrs Steele’s Blakewell herd and all sold for 1300gns to Messrs Cruickshank.
