Trade topped at 5000gns twice, at the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club’s Spring dairy bull show and sale held at Carlisle, with some 22 bulls selling for more than £3000.

Sale topper was Gerrard Class Act from Andrew Carter of Wigton. By Oconnors Lotta Class and bred from an Excellent 94 dam with over 80 ton lifetime, he sold for 5000gns to the Meredith family from Strichen, Aberdeenshire.

Also selling for 5000gns was Annandale Shamen consigned by the Armour family, Moffat. He was sired by Annandale Mr Mayday and bred from a pure British Friesian cow family with massive production. His dam by Parbury Venue gave over 12,000kgs at almost 5% butterfat. He was purchased by F Mattocks from Maryport. The Annandale herd sold eleven bulls in total to average over £3200.

The overall championship went to Warnelview Rockafella from Kevin and Christine Wilson, Wood Farm, Carlisle. He was sired by Peak LC AltaCordial and bred from Warleview Saloon Ruby an Excellent 93 pointed cow with massive production. Rockafella sold for 4500gns to M and C Davies from Pembrokeshire.

Making 4300gns was Woodcatt Fearsome from DR and HM Horsley. By Mr D Apple Diamondback, and out of a Regancreast Dundee-sired dam, he sold to Messrs Harrison and Sons, Cliburn, Penrith, Cumbria.

The reserve honours went to Winton Beaten consigned by Peter Waring from the Winton herd. He was sired by Westcoast Perseus and bred from eight generations of Excellent dams. He sold for 3500gns to Drumchapel Estates in Fife.

The British Friesian breed had another great trade with eleven bulls sold topping at 4200gns to average £2901. The Bell family once again topped the trade with Nerewater Gallant who was purchased by Mr Howard from Blackburn. He was bred from five generations of Excellent or Very Good dams all with lactations over 9000kgs.

At 3800gns, Friesian bull Whinnow Presley sold to Messrs Oulton, Audley, Stoke On Trent. This son of Catlane Chad is out of Lismulligan Priscilla 48.
