Dennis Taylor's Ballynacannon flock flourished at the Borderway Beauties sale at Carlisle, last week, selling the top priced lot at 6000gns.

This collective sale of Suffolk females from no fewer than 14 accredited flocks, saw the lead priced lot from the Ballynacannon flock from Macosquin, Coleraine, Northern Ireland, sell to Iain and Judith Barbour, buying for their Solwaybank flock from Annan.

Their gimmer purchase is by Lakeview Innuendo, a tup bought for 8000gns which also bred the champion Suffolk at this year's NI championships. A full sister to the 5400gns ewe lamb purchased by the Owens and Ballynacannon Billionaire, which was champion at the Royal Cornwall Show, she is bred from a home-bred ewe by Limestone To-Tal.

Mr Taylor who recently won the society's flock competition and the prestigious Bristol Gold Cup, also received 2200gns for another gimmer by Innuendo, from Messrs Fear, Bristol. Her dam, a home-bred show ewe by Mountford Mustang, is a full sister to the 18,000gns Ballynacannon Attitude and Ballynacannon Discovery.

Second top price was 4100gns, paid for a ewe lamb from Andrew Wilson's Castleisle flock from Raphoe, Co Donegal, Eire, bought by Messrs Owen, Newborough, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Gwynedd. She is sired by Strathbogie A Kind of Magic, the current Sire of the Year and out of a Castleisle ewe by Shannagh Resolve that is a maternal sister to three rams selling to 2800gns and a gimmer sold to the Blackbrae flock in 2018.

Another lamb from the same stable made 2000gns selling to Messrs Poole, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. She is by the 40,000gns Limestone Aston Martin and out of a Shannagh ewe sired by Limestone To-Tal, which has bred seven sons and daughters to 3200gns and 2000gns.

Just behind on 4000gns, Stephen Sufferin of the Crewelands flock from Maghera, Co Londonderry, sold a show gimmer to Paul Delves, Craven Arms, Powys. A member of the third prize group of three at the Balmoral which also stood fifth in the gimmer class at the NI championships, this entry is by Ballynacannon Booty Hunter and out of a home-bred ewe by Birness Bravado.

Also selling for 4000gns was a gimmer from the Barbour's Solwaybank flock purchased by Messrs McMenamin, Killygordon, Lifford, Co Donegal. The home-bred favourite is by Lakeview Harbinger while her dam, a home-bred ewe by Lakeview the Boss, is a maternal sister to the two times Royal Highland Show Champion, Solwaybank Eva Jane.

Top price for Mark Priestley's Limestone flock from Seaforde, Downpatrick, was 3800gns paid by Messrs Hutchinson and Son, Rookby, Kirkby Stephen, for a well-bred gimmer that is an ET sister to a 7000gns lamb sold at Stirling last year and several four-figure priced lambs sold at Shrewsbury. A daughter of Lakeview No Limits, she is bred from a Strathbogie ewe by Ballynacannon Commander that is an ET sister to the 20,000gns Strathbogie Jackpot.

Mr Priestley also received 2600gns for a ewe lamb bought by Messrs Fear, Bristol. She is by Limestone Aston Martin, while her dam, a Forkins ewe by Birness Bacardi, bred the 9500gns Limestone Legacy that has bred sons to 30,000gns.

The breeder of that Forkins ewe, Alistair Gault, Newtonabbey, Co Antrim, was also in the money, receiving 2100gns for a gimmer by Forkins Black Gold, out of a home-bred ewe by Cairness New Approach. An ET sister to the 2400gns Forkins Smart Boy and a 2400gns ewe lamb sold to the Jalex flock, this gimmer was knocked down to Paul Delves, Powys.

Top price for William Tait's Burnview flock from Omagh, Co Tyrone, was 2200gns paid by Messrs Williams, Penmynydd, Gwynedd. This gimmer is sired by Strathbogie Im Invincible, and her dam, a home-bred ewe is by Cairness Liam.
