A shearling ram from Matthew Hamilton, Woolfords, sold for the top price of £10,000 at the sale of North-type Blackface sheep at Stirling on October 12 – the flock produced three of the top four highest prices in the section and the top flock average.

This tup – which also stood second in his class at Perth Show – is by a £10,500 Achdregnie shearling bought here in 2017 and out of a home-bred ewe by a 6500gns Harkin tup. Backing his decision, he sold to the judge, Tom Adams and sons, Joe and Alan, Rathkenny, Ballymena, with Archie McKinnon, farm manager at Cadogan Estates’ Auchnacloich unit, at Amulree, Dunkeld, taking a half share.

The 140 shearling rams averaged £854 (-£91.29 for 15 fewer sold) while the 45 ram lambs levelled at £695 (-£27.15 for 20 fewer).
