A fifth championship of the year was clinched by the Ravensgate pedigree herd of Bishop Thornton’s Peter Baul at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest dairy show and sale.

Pre-sale champion was Ravensgate Pesky Blossom 199, a 20 days calved heifer by the Genus sire, Welcome Armitrage Pesky, which sold giving 32litres per day for the top price of £2100 to local buyer John Howard, of Heslaker.

Another 32litre heifer from the same home, Ravensgate Modelman Honesty 182, by the Cogent sire, Diepenhoek Model Man, made £1800.

The third prize heifer from Calton’s Robert Crisp, by Seagull Bay MVP, made £1720.

Maiden heifers from South Yorkshire’s Alan Dickinson, who runs the Roydmoor pedigree herd in Thurlstone sold to £720.

Some 75 rearing calves were also forward which saw trade similar to the past couple of weeks, with British Blue cross bulls performing the best and to a top of £370 from the Hartley familyl, Beamsley, to average £270 for 10. The 19 Blue cross heifer calves levelled at £190, with a top of £270 from the Sowray brothers in Bishop Thornton.

Limousin cross bull calves also did well, peaking at £350 for an entry from Hayton and Stocks in Bolton Abbey to average £263, while Limousin heifers cashed in at £158.

Aberdeen-Angus bulls met flying trade, selling to £360 from Messrs Hayton and Stocks, to level at £252 while black and white calves sold to £75, to average £53.
