Traditional breed features, good muscle and depth, were the main reasons why the 23-month-old Galloway bull, Kimba vom Kronenhof, bagged the overall male championship at the recent national breed show in Germany.
The bull, owned by Arno Molter, won the top award in a competitive Galloway bull section comprising Blacks, Whites, Duns, Silver Duns and Belted Galloways. He was bought at three months of age from the Haase family.
Mr Molter attends to 70 Black Galloways near Wiesbaden in the south of Germany and travels to Scotland regularly for Wallets Marts' annual breed sale at Castle Douglas, in February, where he looks to purchase new blood lines.
