Family rivalry was much in evidence at a joint YFC overwintering hogg competition at United Auctions’ Stirling Centre, where a pen from Anna MacKinnon, Achnacloich, Amulree, bagged the overall championship with brother Ben, having to settle with the reserve honours.

The competition for Perthshire and District and Fife and Kinross YFC members, was judged by L Armstrong, who found his champion winners in a pair which went on to sell for £140 per head while the reserve realised £120.

Outwith the YFC competition, the 4124 prime hoggs averaged 240.88p per kg having sold to £136 for Beltex from Doune Farms, with Texels from Loanhead of Duchally, selling for the top price per kg at 305p.

Cast sheep (1198) peaked at £153 for a Bluefaced Leicester ram from North Deanhead, with ewes to £144 for Charollais from Netherton.
