Store cattle sold to £1350 for a 24-month-old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Ritchie, Croftheads, with heifers to £1320 from the same home.

A British Blue bull from Messrs Pattinson, Temon, topped the weaned cattle at £1800, whilst heifers peaked at £1020 for Limousin crosses from Messrs Faulder, Amazone House.

Limousin crosses were in demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 684 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers levelled at 215.1p per kg and 209.5p respectively.

Bullocks peaked at 266.9p for Limousin crosses from Cambusmore Estate, Dornoch, and to £1275 for a Simmental cross from Lochdhu, Nairn.

Limousin crosses triumphed in the heifers at 249.3p from Lower Whitebog, Fortrose, and to £1160 from Milldam, Meikle Ussie.

Young bulls (5) averaged 206.3p and sold to 220.7p for a 367kg Limousin cross from Lower Whitebog, and to £1000 for a 525kg Simmental cross from Kinnahaird, Contin.

Limousins topped all sections at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 114 store cattle, which met competitive rates throughout.

Top price was £1010 for a Limousin bullock from SB Hooper and Son, Brockergill, whilst heifers of the same breed from Messrs Sanderson and Bell, Valance Lodge, peaked at £930.

Penrith

A show and sale of 680 store cattle through Penrith and District Farmers' Mart, met a buoyant demand, selling to £1620.

Sale leader was the pre-sale champion, a 10-month-old British Blue cross Limousin bullock from R Hall and Son, Inglewood Edge, which sold to Amy Wilson, Hardrigg Hall.

Heifers were topped at £1355 for dairy-bred Limousins from Messrs Graves, The Elephant, purchased by Foley Brothers.

A small show of breeding sheep sold to £165 for in-lamb Texel cross Mule ewes from TG and FK Stobart, Croglin High Hall.

Almost 2000 store cattle were forward at United Auctions' weekly sale where bullocks and heifers averaged 223.90p and 213.05p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 263.70p for a 292kg Simmental cross from Beeches, and to £1265 for a 736kg of the same breed from Spittal.

A 344kg Limousin cross heifer peaked at 252.90p from Kilpatrick, and to £1240 for a 572kg Limousin cross from Buteland.

Young bulls levelled at 169.53p having sold to 185.80p per kg for a Beef Shorthorn cross from West Montgarswood, and to £980 for a Simmental cross from Birchburn.

Also sold were 571 store and breeding sheep, which saw hoggs sell to £100 for Beltex from Castlecary Mill, with breeders to £130 for Mule ewes from Tearmann.

Simmental crosses weighing in at 337kg topped the bullocks at 237.4p from High Street, Archiestown, and to £1200 for Charolais crosses from Upper Cook, Crichie, to level at 207.7p.

Heifers achieved an average of 204.8p per kg, selling to 236.3p for 292kg Simmental crosses from High Street, Archiestown, and to £1030 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Bauchlaw, Banff.

Store cattle met a buoyant demand at Harrison and Hetherington's annual sale of native breeds which attracted in excess of 1000 head.

Top price went to an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from Messrs Marshall, Camieston, selling at £1330, and 264.5p for more of the same from Messrs Connon, Greenknowe. Camieston also topped the heifers at 260p, with an Angus from Wedderlie selling at £1145.

A strong trade was witnessed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 1850 store cattle, bulls and young calves.

Bullocks (1032) averaged 219.4p having sold to 293.9p for a 296kg Charolais cross from Milton of Finnercy, Echt, and to £1310 on three occasions. First were 638kg Charolais crosses from Stoneyhill, Longhaven; a 680kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Stonyford, Tarland and finally, a 724kg Limousin from Auchenzeoch, Fordoun.

A 370kg British Blue cross from The Ess, Dalbuiack, topped the heifers at 400p and £1480, to average 224.2p.

Bulls (42) averaged 188.6p and sold to 256p for a 250kg Charolais cross from Highlands Croft, Newmacher, and to £1030 for a 484kg Simmental cross from Harestone, Crathes.

Ewes with lambs at foot met a buoyant demand selling to £102 per head for a Beltex with singles from Burnside Croft, Lethenty.

Store lambs (1543) sold to £100 for Cheviots from Little Muddie Lumphart, Inverurie.

The firm also sold 81 adult breeding cattle, which were topped at £2300 by a Simmental cross heifer with a bull calf at foot from Fairburn, Longmanhill.

The fortnightly sale of 669 store cattle through Caledonian Marts, met a flying trade, with bullocks and heifers levelling at 212p per kg and 210p respectively.

Bullocks peaked at 268p for Limousins from GS Stewart, Wester Whin, Slamannan, and to £1280 for more of the same from A Kennedy and Sons, Seggarsdean, Haddington.

Limousins also dominated the heifers, selling to 261p from A McDowall and Sons, Midie, Kirkcolm, and to £1150 from J Watson, Candermains, Stonehouse.

The 537 store and breeding sheep were topped at £95 for Mule ewe hoggs from J and J Kinloch, Walton, Cardross, who also topped the store hoggs at £80 with Cheviots.

Grit ewes peaked at £108 for Blackface ewes scanned for twins to a Texel from Kinrara Estates, Grantown on Spey.

A catalogued entry of 514 store cattle and suckled calves to include 180+ of native cattle, was forward for Hexham and Northern Marts' sale which sold to £1300 for a 20-month-old Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer from Messrs Moralee, Lowfield, Willington, Co. Durham.

An Angus also topped the bullocks at £1295 for Stan Willis, Braeside, Alnwick.

Continentals heifers peaked at £1270 for a Limousin cross from George Herdman, Lunns House, with a bullock of the same breeding topping the steers at £1260 for Messrs Collingwood, Intake Farm, Weardale.

Cast ewes and rams met a firm trade, selling to £228 on three occasions. First was a Texel ewe from Messrs Moralee, Hard Riding; a Beltex ewe from the Fawcett Family, Well House, and finally, three Texel ewes from Messrs Davison, Lough Green.

Store hoggs were topped at £140 twice, from Messrs Milburn, Holling Hill, and from the Fawcett Family, Well House.
