More than 600 store cattle were forward for Harrison and Hetherington weekly sale of store and weaned cattle, where all classes met a buoyant demand.

Top price was £1380, paid for British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Dickinson, Low Howe, Wigton, whilst steers peaked at £1345 for a Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton.

Limousins topped the weaned cattle, with a bull from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields, selling at £1280.

Heifers sold to £1275 from Iain Graham, Rose Castle Farm, whilst bullocks peaked at £1010 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Harrison and Son, Sleddale Hall.

A smaller entry of 279 calves sold to £590 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Sharp of Wolsty Hall, Silloth.

United Auctions sold 370 store cattle, and 182 cast cows and bulls, where bullocks (157) and heifers (135) averaged 217.22p per kg and 209.06p respectively.

Bullocks attained a top price of 261.30p per kg for a 266kg Salers cross from South Mains, and to £1190 for a 574kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Renton Home Farm.

Among the heifers top price per kg was 245.00p paid for a 337kg Charolais cross from Newpark, or £1270 per head for a 562kg Limousin cross from Nether Dalkeith.

Leading the the young bulls was a Blonde cross from Gateside, reaching 235.40p and £940.
