Some 1264 prime and cast sheep were sold through Craig Wilson, where 1019 lambs averaged 222p per kg having sold to £116 for heavy weight Lleyns from PA Murray, High Ersock and to 237.8p for Beltex from Q Milroy, Kirranrae.

Cast sheep peaked at £129 for Texel ewes from B Corcoran, Viewfield with Texel tups to £110 from Messrs Hair and Brewis, Drumbreddan.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington had forward 25 prime cattle and 695 prime sheep and cast sheep at their sale where bullocks (11) sold to 253p per kg and £1548.36 for a 612kg Limousin from the Gask, to average 230p.

Heifers (14) reached 262p for a 545kg Limousin from the Gask and to £1627.50 for a 775kg Aberdeen Angus from Wolflaw, to cash in at 236p.

Lambs (640) were topped at £119 for 50kg Charollais from Newbigging of Ceres and to 260p per kg for 43kg Beltex from Clochie, to average 218p (-7p).

Cast ewes (55), levelled at £69 having sold to £103 for a Texel from Over Baldinnie.

Dumfries

AT C and D Auction Marts’ weekly sale, prime cattle peaked at 240p for a Limousin heifer from J Jardine, Yett, while OTMs were topped at £1076 for an Aberdeen Angus from Glenmanna and to 151p for a Hereford from Braehead.

The 844 lambs peaked at £110 for Texels from Shangan, to level at 228.3p per kg, with 377 cast sheep selling to £108 for Suffolks from Nether Dargavel.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 1532 prime sheep at their sale where lambs (701) averaged 214.9p per kg having sold to 237p for 46kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff and £124 for 57kg Texels from 1 Artlaw Crescent, Mintlaw.

Cast ewes were topped at £160 by Texels from North Dorlaithers.

Stirling (Cale)

SOME 63 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 61 OTM cattle and 24 calves and stirks were sold at Caledonian Marts’ sale where heifers sold to 255p per kg for a Limousin from FC Eccles, Bruckley, St Andrews and to £1632 for another of the same from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, to average 230p.

Bullocks sold to 258p for a Limousin from M Orr and Son, Penston, Macmerry, and to £1610 for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty, to level at 224p.

Young bulls cashed in at 189p per kg having sold to a top price of 208p for a Limousin from JF and MB Teague, Buteland and to £1562 for another of the same breed from W Dick and Son, Mains of Throsk, Stirling.

OTM cattle averaged 137p selling to 185p for a Limousin cow from Hume of Overton, Overton, Denny and to £1160 twice for a Limousin from Hume of Overton and a Simmental cow from J McAdam, Callendoune, Helensburgh.

Dairy cows reached 126p from B Lawson, North Cassingray, Fife and to £870 from T Greer and Son, Wharlawhill, Fossoway, to level at 94p.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 1256 lambs, and cast sheep where Doune Farms, West Lundie, Argaty topped the lambs with a 50kg Beltex entry which made £132 or 265p per kg.

Lambs averaged 207p, (-14p on the week but +40p on the year).

Topping the cast trade at £126 were Texel ewes from DL Young, Finmont, Kinglassie.

Tups sold to £141 for a Bluefaced Leicester from HW Ronald and Son, Gartfairn, Drymen.

Stirling (UA)

New season lambs (3148) were topped at £124 for Texels from Wester Whitefield and 270p per kg for Texels from Harviesmailing, at United Auctions’ sale.

Lambs averaged 214.89p per kg.

Ewes (2214) were topped by Texels from Wester Mye at £155 per head while cast tups peaked at £126 for Hampshire Downs from West Meikle Pinkerton.

Thainstone

SOME 70 prime cattle sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts where bullocks (21) averaged 197.6p having sold to 235p for a 535kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle and to £1537.80 for a 660kg similarly bred animal from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt.

Limousins also led the 31 heifers which cashed in at 216.3p (-1.6p). Top prices were 235p per kg for a 490kg entry from Bendauch, Kinellar, and for a 535kg Limousin from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall and to £1461.60 for a 720kg heifer from Hillocks, Whiterashes.

The five young bulls sold to 169p for a 725kg Limousin from Hillocks and £1312.25 for a 905kg Simmental from Connachie, Kellas, to average 151.4p (+0.1p).

Beef cows (116) averaged 149p (+1.2p) having sold to 190.7p for a 708kg British Blue from Bluewhin, Borrowston, and £1530 for a 1070kg Aberdeen-Angus from Denhead, Dunlugas.

Lambs (1075) averaged 210.9p (-10.1p) with a top price of 250p paid twice for 40kg and 42kg Beltex from North Lurg, Midmar and £115 twice for 51kg Continentals from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen and 53kg Texel crosses from Balcraig, Kintore.

Old season types (62) sold to 171.4p for 49kg Suffolk crosses from Norville, Norby and £89.50 for 80kg Texels from Balcraig, whilst cast sheep (706) were topped at £139.50 for Texel ewes from Nordheim, Kirkwall.

Longtown

Some 2734 prime lambs and 4502 cast ewes and rams were forward for C and D Auction Marts’ primestock sale, where lambs sold to 276p for Blue Texels from I Donaldson, Ashton, Lockerbie who also sold the top priced lambs per head at £127 with Texels. The sale averaged 225.1p with an SQQ of 225.0p.

A Texel topped the cast ewes at £174 from A and H McColm, Crailloch, Port William, with hill types selling at £92 for Cheviot ewes from A Tullie Farming, Whitchester, Hawick.

Rams made £150 for Texels from RF Forster, Pates Hill, Irthington.

St Boswell

AT Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale, bullocks (35) and heifers (33) averaged 225p (+3p) and 224p (+3p) respectively.

Top prices were £1276.26 and 239p from Kedzlie, whilst cast cattle sold to £1350.82 from Kersknowe and to 137p from Gateshaw.

Spring lambs (2553) averaged 216.5p having reached £119 for Texels from Bonjedward and 250p per kg for Beltex from Craighouse.

Cast ewes (802) met a sharper trade to average £61.25, selling to £125 for Texels from 2 Duke Street.

Lanark

SOME 37 bullocks and heifers, six young bulls and 74 cast cattle were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s weekly sale.

Heifers sold to 248p kg and £1464 for a Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, with bullocks to 258p for a Limousin from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown and to £1394 for another of the same from Kinneil Mill.

Spring lambs (2873) were topped at £126 for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw and to 280p for Texels from same home, to average 214p.

The 4775 cast ewes and rams were topped at £168 for Texels from Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank, whilst tups peaked at £148 for Texels from Langside.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Marts sold 101 prime and cast cattle at their sale on Tuesday, where the 13 heifers sold to 246p per kg for a Limousin cross from North Boig or £1427.40 per head for another of the same breeding from Girvan Mains. Heifers averaged 233.1p per kg.

The three bullocks forward peaked at 236p for a Limousin cross from North Boig and to £1404 for a Charolais from the same home, to cash in at 228.5p.

Beef cows balanced out at 135.8p topping at 169.6p and £1340 for an Aberdeen Angus off Whitehill.

Dairy cows (48) hit a top price of £940 per head for a Friesian off Townend or 131p per kg for a Friesian consigned by Cooperhill, to level at 107.1p per kg.

The previous day, some 1938 new season prime lambs and 889 cast ewes and tups were sold.

Top prices amongst the lambs were £118 per head paid for three Suffolk crosses from W and R Baird, Dalhowan, Crosshill, or 238.6p per kg for Beltex from I Lammie, Longhouse, Cumnock.

A smaller entry of cast sheep was topped at £171 for Texel ewes from W Stevenson, Auchenflower, with tups to £112 for Suffolks from A Currie, Fisherton.

Dingwall

Some 14 prime cattle were forward at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale on Tuesday, where prime bullocks (three) averaged 229.3p.

Top prices amongst the bullocks were 241.0p per kg for a 570kg Limousin cross and £1403 per head for a 610kg Limousin cross, both of which were consigned by Bridgend Farm, Dingwall.

Prime heifers (11) cashed in at 221.7p having sold to 238.0p per kg and £1475.60 for a 620kg Limousin cross, again from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall.

New season lambs (285) made 256.5p and £109 for a pen of 42.5kg Texel crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn, to level at 207.0p.

The small entry of feeding sheep (83) sold to £110 per head for a Charollais ewe from Lochdhu.

Castle Douglas

WALLETS Marts had forward 1535 prime lambs at their weekly sale on Tuesday which sold to average 217.41p with an SQQ of 217.72p.

Top price was £104 paid twice, for Beltex from Gelston Castle Farms, Castle Douglas, and for a Blue Texel from Messrs Smith, Low Arkland, Castle Douglas.

Top price per kg was 276.9p paid for Beltex lambs from Messrs Burgess, Maryfield, New Abbey.

The 80 head of cast sheep were topped at £112 by Texels from Slatehouse.
