Dumfriesshire breeders, Messrs Murray, Gretna, purchased the top priced lot at 6500gns at the Swiss Beauties Sale of Valais Blacknose at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

The sale, staged on behalf of Northern Ireland breeders, Richard and Selina Beattie, Omagh, was led by Beattie’s Emerald and her ewe lamb, Beattie’s Florance. Emerald is a daughter of Highland King Kong, out of the imported ewe, Highland Karin, which goes back to Salzmann. The ewe lamb is by Jura Eragom.

Second top price was 4000gns paid by Irish breeders, Messrs Higgins, Askeaton, Limerick, for the gimmer, Beattie’s Daisy, a daughter of Highland Darragh, out of Beattie’s Dawn, a Whitehall Chasselas-sired female.

The ewe lamb, Beattie’s Penny was the next in the money at 3500gns, selling to Paul Delves, Chuchstoke, Powys. This March-born twin lamb is another by Eragon but out of Beattie’s Babe, which goes back to Highland Duke.

The same home also went to 3400gns for Beatties Kango, another twin March-born ewe lamb, this time by Glenchamber Flloyd, out of the Duke-sired Beattie’s Lucky.

Two other ewe lambs made 3400gns to include Beatties Buttercup, another by Flloyd, but out of a home-bred ewe by Swiss Register. She sold down to Radcliffe in Manchester with Messrs Speakman.

Matching that price when selling to Messrs Foley, Turton, Bolton, Lancs, was Beattie’s Bow Pepe, a Jura Eragon daughter out of Beattie’s Rose, by Highland King Kong.
