Carlisle

A Limousin cross steer from Kershapefoot, Newcastleton, topped Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 531 store cattle selling for £1390.

Gary Bell from Haas Side, led the suckled calf sale selling to £1280 twice for two nine-month-old Limousin bullocks and £1180 for a nine-month-old Limousin cross heifer.

The 168 weanlings saw Messrs Martin, Hesleywell lead the way with 10 and 11-month-old Limousin cross bullocks selling for £950 and £915.

Calves sold to £520 for a British Blue bull from Turnbull Farming, Monks House, Penrith, while heifers peaked at £485 for a Limousin from Morley Hill Farm.

A smaller show of store sheep saw Beltex from Messrs Wood, Well Head Farm, Dean, sell to £94.

Judge Adam Steele, Steeley Farm, Co Durham, awarded championship honours to a red Limousin cross bullock from Eric Armstrong, Harlow Bower, at Hexham and Northern Marts’ Bellingham show and sale of 981 spring-born suckled calves, which later realised £1150.

The same vendor also secured the reserve title with a black heifer calf out of British Blue cross Friesian dam, which sold for the top price per head of £1180.
