Bullocks led Lawrie and Symington’s weekly primestock sale, achieving 264p per kg and £1591.92 for a 603kg Limousin from Nethermyres, to average 238p.

Limousins from West Bog topped the heifers at 254p per kg for a 590kg entry or £1543.96 for a 638kg animal, to level at 239p.

The firm also sold 747 prime lambs to average 191p. Top price here was 272p and £120 for a pen of 44kg Beltex from Scobshaugh, while ewes achieved £112 for Texels from Clochie.

Dumfries

Sellers enjoyed a buoyant trade at C and D Auction Marts’ primestock sale, where a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett achieved 230p per kg.

The sale of 70 OTMs was topped at £1190 for a Luing bull from Kirkland, while top per kg was a Simmental at 134p from Meikle Barncleugh.

Texels from Shangan led the prime lamb sale at £100 and to 238p per kg for more of the same from Paddockhole. Lambs balanced out at 204.6p.

Ewes met a firm trade and reached £130 for a Charollais from Maryholm.

Huntly

United Auctions’ sale of 2048 prime sheep, saw new season lambs (1228) sell to 213p for 44kg Beltex from Sheep-Park, Bridge of Marnoch and to £106 for 58kg Texels from Auchenbreddie, Insch.

Ewes peaked at £165 for Charollais from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Stirling (Cale)

Limousins were keenly bid for at Caledonian Marts’ prime sale, where an entry from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill topped the trade at 268p per kg or £1593 for more of the same from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canobie, to cash in at 232p.

Heifers averaged 224p per kg having sold to 245p was a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canobie, and to £1694 for a similar animal from the same home.

The sale of OTMs levelled at 124p and attained a top of 199p for a Simmental from R Graham and Son, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan, or £1390 for a Limousin from JF and MB Teague, Temple House, Buteland.

An Aberdeen-Angus from J Laird, South Quarter, Kingsbarns, led the cast bull trade at 142p and to £1420 from PJ Laidlaw, Craigannet, Carron Bridge.

Prime lambs met a steady trade on Tuesday, averaging 183p per kg with JH Bonsor Estate, Balachallan, Ballinluig topping the trade with a 45kg Beltex cross lamb at £112 and 249p.

Top price amongst the ewes went to A Smith, Allanview, Braco, with a Texel at £164.

Stirling (UA)

Some 6514 head of prime sheep were sold through United Auctions, where lambs (4534) were topped at £117 twice from Doune Farms while 250p per kg was achieved for more of the same from Goddens. Lambs balanced out at 191.43p per kg.

Ewes (1980) sold to a top price of £117 per head for Texels from Hill of Errol, while the ram trade was led by Bluefaced Leicesters from Yorkston at £115.

Thainstone

Bullocks topped Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale averaging 179.9p per kg with a lead price of 237p paid for a 540kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle, or £1423.50 for a 730kg Hereford cross from Dalab, Monymusk.

A Limousin cross topped the heifers at 233p for a 560kg entry and £1374.70 for a 590kg similar animal both consigned by Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall. Heifers averaged 209.9p per kg.

The firm also sold 1666 prime lambs to average 191.4p from a top price of 219.7p per kg for 38kg Texels from Black Castle, Gollanfield and £109 for 55kg Beltex from Culhay, Forbes.

Feeding sheep were led by Texels from Skellister, South Nesting, selling at £151.

Longtown

An entry of 9801 prime sheep forward at C and D Auction Marts’ saw a top price of 297p per kg paid for a pen of five Beltex lambs from TR and EA Milburn and Son, Wallend, Greenhead, or £123 for Beltex from Messrs Halliday.

Lambs averaged out at 193.2p.

Cast ewes were topped at £171 for Texels from Dumfriesshire breeders, R Osborne, Castlehill, and from J and C Hastings, Kilncroft.

St Boswell

At Harrison and Hetherington’s sale on Monday, bullocks (13) and heifers (44) averaged 231p per kg and 226p respectively.

Clean cattle sold to £1552.90 and 265p per kg from Bee Edge, whilst cast entries peaked at £1483.50 and 215p per kg from Kedzlie.

Prime lambs sold to £120 for a Texel from Blackadder Mains, and to 281.9p for Beltex from Westerhouses, to level at 196p.

The 424 cast ewes cashed in at £70.82 having sold to £118 for Texels from Huntington.

Lanark

Some 40 bullocks and heifers and 87 cast cows and bulls were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale, on Monday.

Limousin heifers sold to 268p per kg and £1543 from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, while Limousin bullocks sold to 240p from Messrs Allison, Muirburn, Biggar.

The sale of 3597 lambs was topped at £118 for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, and to 279p for Beltex from Messrs Hodge, Dykes, Auchinleck, to average 197p with an SQQ of 204p.

The 2725 ewes achieved £186 for Texels from Midlock.

Carlisle

Heifers proved popular at Harrison and Hetherington’s primestock sale where two Limousin crosses achieved £1732.15 and £1720.05 from Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont.

Top price per kg amongst the heifers was 242.5p for a Limousin cross Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle.

Limousin crosses also topped the steers at £1682.60 for an entry from Messrs Hewitson, Shatton Lodge, Cockermouth.

The firm’s sale of prime lambs averaged 199p and sold to £125 for Beltex from John Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton, while top per kg came fom William Hall, New Houses, Hallington, with Beltex lambs at 301.2p for a pen of eight.

Cast sheep met a good trade selling to £150 for Beltex from Grant and Gemma Anderson, Carrutherstown.

Ayr

A Limousin cross heifer from North Boig secured the top price of 246p per kg at Craig Wilson Marts’ prime sale on Tuesday.

Lead price per head was £1457 for a Limousin heifer off Rowanston. Heifers cashed in at 221.8p.

Three Limousin bullocks sold at 236p or £1380.60 from North Boig, to top the section which averaged 231.7p.

The previous day, some 3809 sheep were sold to average 190.9p. They were topped at £105 or 233.3p per kg by three Beltex from Wallace Kennedy, Lyonston.

Top price amongst the cast ewes was £130 paid for a pair of Texel crosses from James M Thomson and Son, Blairbowie.

Dingwall

Heifers led Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale, where cattle averaged 212.6p per kg and sold to 220.0p for a 580kg Limousin cross and £1354.50 for a similarly bred 645kg entry both from Bridgend, Dingwall.

The same home also topped the bullocks Herefords achieving 210p twice for a 590kg entry and a 605kg animal and £1320.80 for a 635kg beast, to cash in at 209.3p.

Lambs averaged 181.2p and attained 193.4p for 45.5kg Beltex crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn, or £91 for 47.5kg Texel crosses and for a pen of 50kg Texel crosses from Inveruglas, Kingussie.

A steady trade was witnessed for feeding sheep which peaked at £105 for a Texel ewe from Teanluick, Beauly.
