The October Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale at Carlisle, saw trade peak at 4300gns for a show heifer, with no fewer than 80 animals selling for £2000 or more.

Sale leader was Stardale Bloomfield Vaakje 4, from J Burrows, Turnsteads, Barton, Lancaster. She is by Siemers Bloomfield, bred from the noted Vaakje cow family and sold down to Wales with Ifor Williams, Dyfed. Another six heifers from the Stardale herd sold to average almost £2700.

Tom and Anne White from Watsonfoot, Newmains, Lanarkshire, continued to disperse their herd with another nine freshly calved cows and heifers balancing out at £2400.

Watsonfoot Charley Delta led the trade here at 3100gns selling to Messrs McCulloch, Stranraer. She is bred from an Ex91 Picston Shottle grand-dam and sold giving 34kg per day.

Eight well bred bulling Berryholme heifers from David and Francis Wright, Berry Holme, Helsington, Kendal, sold at the end of the sale to average in excess of £2000 with a top price of 3000gns paid for Berryholme Callen Flo, which joins the Ortongrange herd of Messrs Martin, Orton, Carlisle.

Hitting the 2850gns bid was Berryholme Secret Flo from the same home which headed home with Messrs Thomas and Son, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. She is by Secretariat and bred from the Flo cow family. The third dam was Golden Flo, the All Britain winning junior two-year-old daughter of the 2010 National champion, Holmland Storm Flo.

Berryholme Dealmaker Flo then made 2800gns to Cope Prees, Whitchurch, Shropshire. This maiden heifer is a daughter of Claynook Dealmaker, and out of Berryholme Control Flo.

Boclair Missan Hope from David Brewster, Boclair, Glasgow, matched that price when selling to Messrs McColm, Lochans, Stranraer. She is bred from a VG Byway sister to the successful show cow, Boclair Sid Hope.
