Trade was buoyant for the final big sale of North Country Cheviot rams at Dingwall, when prices peaked at £6200 for a two-shear from Scott and Farquhar Renwick, Inverbroom, Ullapool.

The sale leader from their 1050-ewe flock is a son of Hartside Hill T-Rex, a £950 purchase at Lairg and bred from a home-bred ewe. He sold to Wilma Robertson, Midtown, Talmine, Lairg.

The Scottish Farmer:

Badanloch three-shear sold for £5000 Ref:RH271020508

Kelso-based Robert and Becca Rennie, Bowmont Farming, Attonburn, purchased the second top lot at £5000, a three-shear from Badanloch Estate, managed by Hughie Mackenzie, at Kinbrace, Sutherland. This lad is by Badanloch Beast, sold two years ago for £4000 to Armadale, and out of a home-bred ewe.

On the flip side, Badanloch went to £4500 for a two-shear from Tina and Leslie Robertson, Inkstack, Barrock. He is by a Keppoch tup purchased at Dingwall two years ago and out of a home-bred ewe.

They also achieved £4500 for an Inkstack Sovereign-sired two-shear, out of a home-bred ewe. David Renwick, Keppoch Farms, Dundonnell, was the final bidder.

Another Inkstack ram, a three-shear, backed by home-bred genetics on both sides, realised £3800 to Rhifail Farms, Newton of Ferintosh, Dingwall. Inkstack sold 12 to average £2091.67.

Matching the £4500 sale was the best from Achentoul, Kinbrace, managed by Murdo MacDonald. This two-shear is a son of Suisgill Enforcer, purchased four years ago. The final bid came from Andrew Robertson, manager of Nicholson Farms, Wotton Underwood, Aylesbury.

The final tup sale for Bill Elliot before his retirement from Hethpool, Wooler, saw his best make £4000 to Rab MacDougall, Wood Cottage Croft, Tobermory, Mull. Hethpool Xaminer goes back to Whitchesters Raptor.

Just behind, on £3800, was a two-shear from Joyce Campbell’s 850-Cheviot ewe flock, at Armadale, Thurso. This Badanloch Beast son headed home with R MacPherson, Riverfoot, Glenelg, Kyle of Lochalsh.

The same home also received £3500 on two occasions with the pen of four averaging £3200.

First to make this money was a two-shear by the £10,000 Backside Special Blend, purchased by David Elliot, Rhigolter, Durness.

Armadale also topped the four shears at £3500 when selling to the Allens, at Stouphill and Humbleheugh, Alnwick. Their purchase, a son of Northhouse Reliant, bought from Sorbietrees at Dingwall, has been used for two seasons at Armadale.
