Gimmers from John Elliot’s Roxburgh flock, Kelso, proved supreme at the Christmas Cracker sale of in-lamb Texels at Carlisle, producing the top two prices and the highest average of £2021.25 for eight gimmers.

Topping the trade at 3800gns was a daughter of Haymount Arnott and out of a Craig Farm Yazza Ewa-sired dam. She was sold in-lamb to Canllefaes Bright Spark and was bought by Ken Hodge of Greenarch Texels, Mosslane, Mobberley.

The second highest priced gimmer at 3500gns also headed home with Greenarch Texels. Sired by Midlock You’re The One and out of a Craig Farm Yazza Ewa-sired dam, she is due to Canllefaes Bright Spark.

Ken Hodge purchased two more Roxburgh gimmers at 1500gns each, both carrying to Canllefaes Bright Spark. The first gimmer is another Midlock You’re The One daughter, out of a home-bred Roxburgh Young Gun-sire ewe, while the second is by Haymount Arnott and out of a home-bred dam.

At 1700gns was a Brontemoor gimmer from JM and SM Priestley, Cracrop, Cumbria, which sold to Messrs Smith and Son, Glenkirdie, Alford. In-lamb with triplets to the 6000gns Logie Durno Braveheart, she is by Brijon Warlord and out of a Glenway Upper Class-sired dam.

Jack Arnott sold his best to 1600gns from his Haymount flock, Kelso. A daughter of Garngour Ambassador and out of a Clinterty Yuga Khan-sired ewe, she sold in-lamb to the 13,000gns Usk Vale Crackerjack and was bought by Messrs Smith and Son, Glenkirdie, Alford, Aberdeenshire.
