With a strong entry of 3116 prime sheep forward for Wallets Marts’ annual Christmas show and sale, Jock McMillan, Carse of Clary, Newton Stewart, came out on top with a 39.3kg average weight pen of Beltex lambs.

Tapped out by the judge for the day, Jimmy Stark, Bluebell, Alton Farm, Milton of Campsie, the victors sold to J MacTaggart, Dunjop, Bridge of Dee, for an impressive £230 per head.

Standing in reserve was the first prized pen of 44.7kg Texel lambs from Messrs Sturgess, Cullinaw, Castle Douglas, which fetched £185 this time to Grierson Bros Butchers, Castle Douglas.
