A buoyant demand for Beltex and Texel in-lamb females was witnessed at the New Year Belles sale, at North West Auctions’ J36 centre, ensuring increased averages in two sections, albeit for fewer sold.
Topping the trade at 2200gns was a Texel gimmer from the Procters flock from, Wennington, Lancashire, brought out by flock manager, Jeff Aiken. This Sportsmans Batman daughter sold carrying twins to Llyfni Droog. She sold in a two-way split to R Watkin and DJJ Watkins of Cwncerrig, Llanelli.
Two Texel gimmers from Charlie Boden’s Sportsmans flock from Mellor, Stockport, made 2000gns, with the first being a Fordafourie Amalert daughter that scanned in lamb to Midlock De Niro. She headed home with A and M Skidmore, Flakebridge, Tebay.
Selling for the same money was a Deveronvale Ace of Diamonds gimmer which also sold due to De Niro. She travelled across to Crossenny having been purchased by CG Ball, Upercome, Llantilio.
Texel ewe lambs reached 850gns from Welsh breeder, Myfyr Evans of the Rhaeadr flock. His much-admired entry is by Brackenridge Crown Royal and sold to SM Elston, the Bables, Runshaw Lane, Chorley.
Dutch Texel gimmers sold to 1700gns from G Pyman, Parkview, Stainton, Penrith. She sold in lamb to Skiddaw View Y Busby Babe, to FJC Dean, Kirk House, Brampton, Penrith.
Stirling-based breeder, Andrew Morton, topped the Beltex at 1700gns with the gimmer Mortons Elsie, from Lochend, Denny. She is by Willy Nine Hundred and sold carrying a single to Gyffin Dexter, to Alisdair Prickett, Farleton.
Another from the same home and by the same sire made 1600gns. Mortons Edna sold carrying twin lambs to E Benn, Wodencroft, Barnard Castle.

averages: Texel – 77 in-lamb gimmers, £854.00 (+£328.63 for six fewer); 13 ewe lambs, £442.19 (-£614.47 for five more). Beltex – Three in-lamb ewes, £479.50; 14 in-lamb gimmers, £971.25 (+£415.45 for 16 fewer).
