Prime lambs were topped at 265p per kg for a 43kg Beltex from Balbrydie, and to £117 for a 45kg Beltex also from Balbrydie, to average 216p at Lawrie and Symington’s sale.

Ewes averaged £58 having sold to £117 for Suffolks from Govals.


At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, cattle sold to 233p per kg for Limousin cross heifers from Burnside.

The 580 lambs reached £112 for Texels from Meikleholm and to 268p for more of the same from Tara, to level at 236.5p.

The 167 cast ewes and rams hit £110 for Texels from Loaningfoot.


United Auctions’ sale of 1663 prime sheep saw 1126 lambs level at 212.2p per kg with a top price of 235p paid for a 48kg Texels from Rivestone, Kinnoir and to £110 for a 57kg Texel from South Cranna, Aberchirder.

The 537 cast sheep saw Suffolk cross ewes from South Cranna lead at £97, while Suffolks rams topped at £90 from Gaich.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts’ sale on Tuesday saw 1117 sheep balance out at 234.7p per kg, with WM Bell and Son, Craigend, Perth, leading the charge at £123 for a 52kg Beltex cross hogg, or to 300p for 39kg Beltex from the same home.

Beltex also led the cast trade which averaged £110.47 from a top price of £170 for Beltex cross ewes from C Smith, South Flanders, Kippen.

Rams levelled at £80.44 and reached £131 for a Charollais from H Greer, Gelvan View.

Stirling (UA)

Some 4374 head of prime sheep were sold through United Auctions, where hoggs (3716) were topped at £122 for Beltex from West Park or 322p per kg for more of the same from Easter Bucklyvie, to average 231.36p.

Ewes (658) hit a ceiling of £138 per head for Texels from Westhall, while a Texel from Cretlevane led the rams at £135.


SOME 23 prime cattle forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale saw bullocks average 225.8p per kg and sold to 237p and £1279.80 for a 540kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle.

Heifers levelled at 215.4p and peaked at 241p and £1373.70 for a 570kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall.

The 1773 prime lambs cashed in at 219p selling to 256.6p for 38kg Beltex from Aldie Farm, Cruden Bay and £116 for 49kg Beltex from Foggieley Farms, Craigievar.

Beltex topped the feeding sheep at £147 from Mains of Allanbuie, Keith.


At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, 4520 prime lambs sold to 337p for 10 Beltex from R and J Lines, Killocraw, Campbeltown or £145 for Texel lambs from EJC Dean, Kirk House, Brampton, to cash in at 232.3p with an SQQ of 239.2p.

The 1926 cast ewes hit £182 for a pure Texel ewe from T Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, while rams sold to £150 for Texels from D McGregor, Longrigg, Roweltown.

St Boswell

At Harrison and Hetherington’s sale at St Boswells on Monday, bullocks (8) and heifers (41) averaged 218p and 225p respectively.

They sold to £1506.96 from Upper Nisbet and 247p per kg from Lennoxlove, whilst cast entries peaked at £1492.50 and 199p on two occasions from Rumbleton.

Prime hoggs (674) sold to £120 for Suffolks from Bonjedward and 269.2p for Beltex from Halidean Mill, to level at 233p.

The 228 cast ewes cashed in at £104 having peaked to £147 for Texels from Huntington.


Some 26 bullocks and heifers and 49 cast cows were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale, on Monday.

Heifers sold to 248p for Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie or to £1500 from more of the same Messrs Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar.

The 2053 hoggs were topped at £136 for Beltex from Messrs Cunningham, Walkerdyke and to 318p for more of the same from Walkerdyke, to average 241.4p.

The 969 cast ewes sold to £198 for Texels from K Wight, Midlock and to £79 for Blackface from Messrs Barr, Shieldhill.


A Charolais cross steer from Messrs Neill, Upper Tinwald, Dumfries, led Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 32 prime cattle, selling at £1765.63.

Top pence per kg was 245.50p for a British Blue from Messrs McKelvey, Burnside, Lockerbie.

Cast cows sold to 154.5p and £1467 from I Bell, Hallbankgate.

Prime hoggs averaged 245p with a top price of £128 paid for Texels from Cochranes Nurseries, Longtown and from RC Mitchell and Sons, Mirkbooths, Raughton Head.

A pair of 41kg Beltex hoggs sold for the top price per kg of 309.8p from A and A Little, Hollands, Penton.

Cast sheep were topped at £140 for a Beltex ewe from Messrs Little, The Guards, whilst rams peaked at £130 for Leicesters from Sheepriggs.


Heifers topped Craig Wilson Marts’ sale of 94 prime and cast cattle, with the nine lots averaging 236.4p per kg having sold to 256p or £1472 for a Limousin from North Boig

The 27 beef cattle peaked at £1300 for a Limousin from Girvan Mains and a Charolais from Dykes Farms or 163.1p per kg from Girvan Mains.

On Monday, the firm’s sale of 850 hoggs levelled at 240.3p with AB Young, Girvan Mains topping the trade with Beltex selling for £123 or 279.6p.

The 196 cast sheep met a strong trade achieving a top of £139 for Texel crosses from R Duffin, West Brockloch.

Cast rams sold to £120 for two Bluefaced Leicesters from Messrs Paton, Craig.


Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale saw heifers average 216.9p having sold to 222.0p or £1420.80 for a 640kg Charolais cross from Four Oaks, Evanton.

The 218 prime lambs averaged 233.9p and peaked at 244.3p for 44kg Suffolk crosses from Achavrole Mains, Halkirk and £108.50 for 51.5kg Suffolk crosses from Muirton Mains, Urray.

Feeding sheep sold to £125 for a Texel ewe from Birchwood, Rearquhar.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts had forward 1977 prime hoggs which averaged 240.36p per kg having sold to £124 for Beltex from Messrs Walker, Mindork or 312.8p for Beltex from Craigview.

Cast sheep reached £175 for a Texel from Messrs Black, Hillside.
