A red and white heifer from Graham and Margery Rudd, Jenkin Cross, Wigton, led the charge at the March Dairy Day sale at Carlisle, selling for £2250.

She changed hands giving 37kg per day and headed home with Messrs Mandale and Son, Raughton Head, Carlisle.

The sale, which saw just over 200 dairy cattle change hands, resulted in 21 animals selling at or above the £2000 mark.

Second top price was £2200 paid for Turnbull Farming’s Romanway Allstar Iona from Monks House, Penrith, which sold to Messrs Hunter and Son, Penrith. A De-Su Allstar daughter out of the high yielding dam, Romanway Gerwyn Iona, this two-year-old sold giving 33kg per day.

The Forsyths of Baltier Farming, Whithorn, bought the next two highest priced lots at £2150 and £2120.

The dearest, Witherslack Delta-Lambda Hiedi, a 2018-born heifer by Farnear Delta-Lambda, from JD Inman, Strickland Hill, Witherslack, Grange Over Sands, is out of Witherslack Denim Hiedi.

Baltier also went to £2080 for DJ Livingstone’s December 2018-born, Kirtlevale Flagship Apple, from Kirtlevale, Gretna.

Selling at £2120 was a Holstein Friesian October 2018-born heifer by Secretariat, from Simon Moon, West Thornber, Wigglesworth, who sold five to average £1937.

Another on the £2120 price tag was the Ayrshire heifer, Swaites Beau, from John Adamson, Swaites, Pettinain, Lanark, which sold to Messrs Mandale and Son, Raughton, Carlisle.
