Carlisle

Trade peaked at £1570 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan, at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale.

Steers hit a top of £1510 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Carlisle, with black and white dairy steers reaching £1290 for a Friesian from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Carlisle.

The 260 weaned calves were topped at £1280 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Potts, Chapel House, Talkin, with a seven-month-old Limousin cross from Messrs Jackson, Clarks Farm, leading the heifers at £1160 while bullocks sold to £1010 from M and M Sherwen, Tarn How, Seascale.

Some 35 calves out of the 330 forward sold for in excess of £500, peaking at £615 for a Limousin bull from Messrs McGregor, Longrigg, with heifers selling to £540 for a British Blue from Smalmstown.

On Monday, store and breeding sheep sold to £110 for Texel ewes from Messrs Bowe, Midtown.

Dingwall

Bullocks and heifers averaged 256.1p per kg and 240.9p respectively at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 823 store cattle.

Bullocks sold to 311.0p for 283kg Charolais crosses from Creagmhor, Glenelg, and to £1300 on two occasions, firstly for a 460kg Limousin cross from Westburn, Thurso, and for a pair of 575kg Simmental crosses from Glebe Farm, Kiltarlity.

Limousin crosses dominated the heifers at 318.6p from Westburn, and to £1260 from Granish Farm, Aviemore.

Young bulls (3) averaged 193.5p and sold to 223.5p and £950 for a Beef Shorthorn from Tackmore Croft, Lybster.

Also staged was the annual sale of 14 Young Farmers' over-wintered cattle, where the champion, a 464kg Limousin cross heifer from Georgia Fraser, Little Croy, Inverness, topped the trade at 366.4p and £1700.

Topping the bullocks at 295.5p was another of the same from the same home. Top price per head was £1400 for a Limousin cross from Duncan Munro, Invercharron Mains, Ardgay.

Reserve honours went to a 482kg Charolais cross from Duncan Munro, Invercharron, which later realised £1300. The award for the highest daily live weight gain and highest gross margin was presented to Robert Pottie with his 580kg Shorthorn cross which gained 1.46kg a day and sold for £1140.

Stirling UA

All classes met a firm trade at United Auctions' sale of 1572 stores, 134 rearing and 142 out of spec cattle, cast cows and bulls, where bullocks and heifers balanced out at 248.83p per kg and 244.60p respectively.

Limousin crosses topped the bullocks, selling to 318.20p for an entry from Gibblaston, and to £1520 for a 646kg bullock from Gartness.

Heifers realised 312.50p for a 304kg Limousin cross from Dyke, and to £1440 for a 544kg Simmental cross from Gladhouse Mains.

Young bulls (29) averaged 229.16p and sold to 278.50p for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Cabbage Hall, and to £1090 for the same from Mosshall.

Trade peaked at £230 among the store sheep for a Texel cross hogg from C Leggate, Silver Rigg.

In-lamb Cheviot Mule ewes reached £133 for Dunmhor Crofting.

A strong show of 85 calves and stirks were forward for Craig Wilson's weekly sale, where trade peaked at £890 for a Blonde cross bull stirk from Messrs Adams, Half Mark.

Heifers sold to £820 for Limousin crosses from DG Cunningham, Walkerdyke.

Top price calf at £580 was a Charolais cross bull from Messrs Harper, Kaimhill, whilst heifer calves peaked at £480 for a pair of Aberdeen-Angus crosses from AM Dunlop and Son, West Cairngarroch.

Thainstone

Some 1242 store cattle, young bulls and young and weaned calves were forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts sale, where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 259.5p per kg and 253p respectively.

A pen of seven 258kg Charolais crosses topped the bullocks at 329.5p from Keiss Mains, Wick, and £1510 was paid for a 670kg Limousin from Harmar, Smallburn.

Heifers peaked at 314.4p for 264kg Charolais crosses from Keiss Mains, and to and £1570 for 542kg Limousin crosses from Leitcheston, Enzie.

The firm also sold 50 breeding cattle, where heifers with calves sold to £2350 on three occasions firstly for a British Blue cross with a bull calf, then for a Limousin cross with a heifer calf and a Shorthorn cross with a heifer calf all coming from Fairburn, Longmanhill.

A Simmental cross cow with bull calf reached £2250 for Leyton, Aboyne, whilst more of the same topped the in-calf heifers at £2050 from Broadsea, Burnhervie.

Ewes with lambs at foot were in short supply and, averaged £74.73 for 23, selling to £78 for Texel cross ewes with lamb and half from Logie Durno Farm, Pitcaple.

Breeding ewes were topped by continentals at £84 from Mid Gask, Longhaven, to level at £75.03.

Beltex from Little Muddie, Inverurie, led the store lambs when selling for £140, with the section cashing in at £85.81.

Trade again lifted on the week at Hexham and Northern Marts' sale of 437 store cattle, selling to £1580 for an Aberdeen-Angus steer from Dennis Burn, Aydonshields.

Limousin crosses topped the heifers at £1375 for Trench Hall.

Another strong show of 603 store hoggs averaged £110.96 having sold to £150 for Texel tup hoggs from Tedcastle. Texel cross hoggs peaked at £144 from Middle Dukesfield, whilst hill-bred hoggs peaked at £132 for Blackfaces from Hotbank.

All classes were in demand at United Auctions' sale of store cattle, where bullocks sold to 281.6p per kg for a 380kg Limousin cross from Fordmouth, Tomintoul, and to £1230 for 492kg Charolais crosses from Fordmouth, Tomintoul.

Bullocks and heifers balanced out at 245p and 228p respectively.

Limousin crosses topped the heifers, when selling to 258p for two 345kg entries from Upper Towie Estates, Glenkindie, and to £1340 from Weetyfoot, Grange.

On Monday, Caledonian Marts had forward 642 store cattle at their fortnightly sale, where bullocks and heifers balanced out at 244p per kg and 238p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 336p for a Charolais from Gilmour Farms, New Peninver, Campbeltown, and to £1420 from J McAdam, Callendoune, Helensburgh.

More of the same topped the heifers at 285p from New Peninver and to £1490 from Hume of Overton, Denny.

In the native section, Shorthorn bullocks realised £1360 on two occasions from Mitchell and Sons, Mid Craigton, Newton Mearns, and W Taylor and Son, Jawpark, Slamannan, whilst Aberdeen-Angus peaked at 318p from Nick North, Boquhan House, Balfron.
