Carlisle

Limousin bullocks realised £1600 at Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale for Geoff Batey, High Knells, Scaleby.

Heifers peaked at £1480 for more of the same from BW and LM Stagg, Longrow, Canonbie.

Some 200 weanlings were on offer, which were topped by a Limousin bull from Messrs Swift, Dry Howe, when realising £1240.

Bullocks sold to £1180 for a Limousin from Messrs Metcalfe, High Old Shields, whilst a Fleckvieh heifer peaked at £1060 for Messrs Harrison, Dundraw.

The same day, the firm held its weekly sale of 332 calves, where trade peaked at £625 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Wadsworth, Big Balcraig, Newton Stewart.

More of the same led the heifers at £500 on two occasions both from Hadderdale.

A small show of cows and heifers with calves, bulls and in calf heifers were also forward, which saw a Limousin cross heifer and calf make £2650 from Messrs Robinson and Son, Gelt Hall.

On Monday, the firm held their weekly sale of store and breeding sheep, where Texel gimmers and lambs sold for £124 from Messrs Ramsay, Dockray Hall, Wigton.

United Auctions sold 1225 store cattle, native bred cattle and young bulls, where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 253.85p per kg and 244.88p respectively.

Bullocks topped the sale at 306.60p for a 287kg Simmental cross from Bangour, and to £1490 for a 652kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Victoria.

A 479kg Simmental cross from West Deloraine, led the heifers at 292.30p, whilst a 586kg Limousin cross from Lower Kenly, realised £1440.

Texel cross ewe hoggs led the store sheep at £115 for Airthrey Kerse.

All classes increased in value on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1212 store cattle, to achieve an overall average of £1123.93, with bullocks cashing in at 265.3p per kg and heifers at 265.4p.

Topping the sale at 339.1p was a pen of four 230kg Simmental crosses from Candyglirach, Drumoak, and to £1550 for a 592kg Limousin cross from Gorn, Balfour.

Heifers realised 334.9p for a pen of eight 218kg Charolais crosses from Highlands, Newmachar, and to £1510 for a 580kg Limousin cross from Gorn.

A 400kg Limousin topped the bulls at 255p and £1020 from Newton of Budgate, Cawdor.

Also forward were 1212 ewes with lambs at foot, breeding ewes and store lambs including island consignments, which achieved an overall average of £78.90 per head.

Breeding ewes topped at £150 for Mules from Corsholoch, Glass, to cash in at £102.52, and not far behind at £118 were Beltex store lambs from Belnaboth, Glenkindie, which balanced out at £91.52.

Island lambs (89) averaged £73.79 and sold to £108 for Beltex from Strathgarry, St Ola.

A 416kg Limousin heifer from Holehouse, led the charge at Lawrie and Symington's sale of 965 store cattle, when realising £2500 and 601p per kg.

Bullocks topped at £1510 for a 612kg British Blue from Crookboat, and to 307.1p for a pair of 280kg Limousins from Drumalbin.

Heifers and bullocks cashed in at 237.46p and 245.66p respectively.

The firm also sold 231 ewes with lambs at foot and store hoggs, where Texel hoggs topped at £113 from Laight Cleughearn.
