Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their annual junior farmers overwintering competition in conjunction with their weekly sale of store and breeding stock.

The champion was awarded to a British Blue cross heifer brought out by Harry Willey of Chopwell, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, bred by the Sanderson family of East Holling Carr, Trimdon. She went on to realise the top price of £1450.

A red Limousin heifer from Hayley Mitchell, Morpeth, bagged the blue and white sash before selling for £1300. This girl was purchased in October from the Dent family of Northfield Farms.

Taking home the highest profit gain was Jack Barker of Little Ketton, when his Shorthorn steer realised £1380, leaving him a £580 profit.

Store hoggs achieved a top price of £130 for a trio of Texels from H Thompson of Coatham Lane.
