Carlisle

A Limousin cross and a Charolais cross bullock both from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, secured the lead price of £1630 at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale.

Messrs Robinson, West Cocklaw, Hexham sold the leading heifer again a Limousin at £1600.

In the weaned cattle section heifers topped at £1360 for a Limousin from Messrs Scott, Bleabank whilst steers reached £1180 for Hereford from Messrs Kirkwood, Mouswald Grange.

A large show of bulls realised £1190 for a Charolais from Messrs Robinson, New Hall.

On the same day was the weekly sale of 286 calves, which topped at £615 for a pair of British Blue calves from Messrs Wadsworth, Big Balcraig.

On Monday, the firm held their weekly sale of breeding sheep, which topped at £122 a life for two gimmers with twins from Messrs Norman, The Bow, Great Orton.

A Limousin heifer from North Waterland realised £1650, whilst more of the same from Maxwelston attained 316.5p.

Bullocks topped at £1480 for a Simmental from Ravenslie, and to 317.2p for Aberdeen-Angus from Mid Lugtonridge.

Store hoggs were scarce ensuring a strong trade throughout with a top price of £130 for Cheviots from Craigalbert.

Bulls looked a roaring trade topping at £1585 for a Limousin from G and T Tyson, East House, Brigham, which averaged £1391.19.

The first ewes and lambs of the season were also forward, with Texel cross Mule ewes with twin Texel lambs reaching £90 a life from Messrs Palmer, East Townend, Workington.

Feeding ewes reached £129 for Greyfaces from Windy Hill, whilst breeding sheep peaked at £116 a life for Texel cross ewes with single lambs from A Ewart and Son, Kirkhill.

The fortnightly sale of store cattle, topped at £1280 for a British Blue bullock from G and A Lockhart, Underwoodhouse, Kirkpatrick Fleming, who also sold a Beef Shorthorn heifer at £1185.
