Stardale Doppler Jodie from Preston-based breeders, J Burrow and Son, proved the star attraction at the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale at Carlisle, when she sold for the lead price of 3100gns.

The sale, which saw no fewer than 47 animals sell for more than £2000 per head, was led by a Scientific Doppler daughter, from the Stardale herd from Tunstead, Broughton, Preston. Dopper Jodie, a December 2018-born entry bred from the VG85-3yr Stardale Grafeeti Jodie, was knocked down to the Forsyths of Baltier Farming, Whithorn, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.

The same buyers also bought two from J Brewster, Boclair, Bearsden, Glasgow, at 3000gns and 2400gns. Dearest was Boclair Doc Gypsy, a Woodcrest King Doc-sired heifer out of Boclair Radiant Gypsy, which changed hands giving 45kg.

Selling at 2400gns was Boclair Chief Reizend, a Stantons Chief daughter out of the VG85-classified dam, Boclair Caviar Reizend. Boclair sold four to average £2520.

Selling at 2700gns again to Baltier Farming was Berryholme Lighthouse Flo, from H Wright and Son, Berry Holme, Helsington, Kendal. This calved heifer by Westcoast Lighthouse, is bred from the Willsbro Abbot daughter, Berryholme Abbott Flo 2. The herd sold three to cash in at £2502.

In an all Scottish transaction, Alan McCamley, Ochiltree, Cumnock, forked out 2400gns for the February 2019-born heifer, Joylan Pharo Tess from Balcurvie Holsteins, Bankhead of Balcurvie, Windygate, Fife. She is by Sandy-Valley J Pharo and out of Joylan Octain Tess. Balcurvie sold seven heifers to balance out at £1897.

Mr McCamley also went to 2400gns for Robert Steel’s Kepculloch Delta-Lambda Rose from Kepculloch, Balfron. This freshly calved heifer is by Farnear Delta-Lambda and out of Kepculloch Fry Rose.

The champion, Espland Impression Anglela, topped the cows at 2100gns for Alan Cannon who was dispersing the first from his Espland herd from Brampton, Appleby In Westmorland. The four-year-old that calved in December, is a daughter of Monument Impression and sold to the Wilsons from Carlisle.

Espland Lighthouse Marilyn from the same home bagged the reserve championship before selling for 2300gns to Baltier Farming Company. Marilyn is by Westcoast Lighthouse. Espland sold 30 cows and heifers to average £1727.

Top price amongst the 27 Ayrshire heifers was 2200gns paid for Cuthill Towers Religious Chastity from Arthur and Susan Lawrie, Cuthill Towers, Milnathort, Kinross, who sold 13 heifers to average £1853. Chastity is by Cuthill Towers Religious and sold to Messrs Brown, Kilmarnock.
