A round up of special sales for the week, where store cattle remained strong throughout.

Carlisle

Limousins from JD Gent and Son, Brecks, topped both the store bullocks and heifers at £1700 and £1560 respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, where the farm sold 36 to average £1423.89.

The 400 weaned cattle sold to £1720 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Barrow, Lodges, with heifer reaching £1170 for a British Blue from Messrs Carruthers, Rawfoot. Bullocks sold to £1085 for Limousins from Messrs Godwin, Commissarybog.

A Limousin from Messrs Gilliard, Ayrshire, topped the 375 calves, with a bull at £615.

On Friday, beef breeding cattle sold to £2700 for Limousin heifers with calves from Messrs Roots, Kilnford Croft, with cows and calves from the same home to £2350 and £2300.

Breeding sheep sold on Monday were topped by Beltex cross gimmers with lambs reaching £135 per life from Messrs Bainbridge, Laneside, Barnard Castle, with the twins from the same farm selling for £108 per head.

A 208kg Simmental cross heifer realised 312.50p for Corsehillhead, and to £1515 for a 624kg Charolais from Balthayock.

A lead price of £1520 was achieved by a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs McGowan, Glenholly, Craiglea, while top price per kg was 314p paid for another of the same cross from Messrs Grieve, The Lee.

A strong show of ewes and lambs met an increased trade, selling to £104 for Texel cross hoggs and singles from Whitrighill.

Bullocks and heifers cashed in at 248.6p per kg and 231.8p respectively at Craig Wilson's sale of 714 store cattle.

A top price of £1490 was paid on three occasions – for a Limousin bullock from Turnerhill, and for a Charolais bullock from Over Auchentibber, and again for a Limousin heifer from Drumwhirn.

Limousins topped the pence per kg section at 288.5p for bullocks from Maxwelston, and to 286.7p for heifers from Cloquhairnan.

Some 116 ewes with lambs at foot and 17 hoggs were also forward, which sold to £225 for a pen of 10 Texel cross ewes with 20 Texel lambs sold on behalf of M Howard, Malcolmston.

Bullocks sold to 326.2p for three 302kg Limousin crosses from Waterside, Forbes, and to £1570 for a 730kg Simmental cross from Chapelford, Buckie, to cash in at 254.1p.

Bulls (23) sold to 270.4p for four 280kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Horndoyne, Oyne, and to £1130 for a 492kg Limousin cross from Meikle Aucheoch, Maud.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 314 head of beef breeding cattle where no fewer than 14 lots sold for £3000 and above. Simmentals topped the trade at £3500 with bull calf from Messrs Ewing, South Blachrie, while Limousins sold to £3400 with a bull calf from Messrs Malone, Pitcairn and British Blues at £3350 with a heifer calf from Messrs Brown, Auchmaliddie Mains. The sale averaged £2452.15 per outfit.

The multi-breed pedigree bull and female staged conjunction with Sell My Livestock, saw a lead price of 4800gns for the Limousin Shannas Pilot, from Messrs Penny, Shannas, purchased by JW Sutherland and Sons, Granton Mains, Bower.

Also sold were 1741 gimmers and ewes with lambs, which averaged £77.03 per life. Top price was £108 for Texel ewes with singles from Craigroy, Dallas.

The whole sale cashed in at £77.60 per life for ewes with mostly twins.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 1364 store cattle, where bullocks topped at £1590 for a 654kg Limousin from Lochurd, ans to 318.2p per kg for a 330kg Limousin from Drumalbin to average 241.3p.

Among the heifers, trade peaked at £1440 for a pen of three 584kg Limousins from Dreva, and to 375p for a 352kg British Blue from Hillridge, to level at 232.1p.
