History was well and truly made at the British Blue spring sale staged at Carlisle on behalf of Harrison and Hetherington, when a new breed record was achieved of 30,000gns for Gass Okay.

A field day all round, witnessed the 63 Blue bulls average £7566.66 with females cashing in at £4668.46.

Sale leader and record breaker came from the Kay family, Andrew and his sons, Andrew and Robert, of the Gass Farm, Straiton, Maybole.

After bagging the champion in the pre-sale show, this April-2019 born black bull headed home with Messrs Morgan, Tillington, Hereford. Being a son of the 10,000gns Almeley Kwasimodo, out of Gass India, which goes back to Mountjoy Utopia.

The stable mate achieved 18,000gns, which was paid for a similarly aged bull by the same sire. Gass Orbit is out of another home-bred dam, Gass Krystal, this time being purchased by Messrs Whiting, Colchester, Essex.

Solway View Odin bagged the second top price of 27,000gns for Kevin Watret, Northfield Park, Annan. This 26-month-old bull is by the AI sire, Bedgebury Flat Out, whilst the dam, Solway View Kesha goes back to Solway View Firecracker. Coul Estate Partnership, Laggan, Perthshire, forked out the cash for this boy.

Another to hit the 18,000gns price tag was the embryo calf, Homilton Ozzy from Roly Carr, Little Bavington, Capheaton. This September 2019 bull is a son of Heros Du Peroy, out of Homilton Iris. This boy now heads to Lancashire with Messrs Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge, Clitheroe.

Females hit a top of 12,000gns for the female champion, Clifftown Peaches from Dylan Townend and Nicky Midgley, Quarry Farm, Broughton, Malton. Securing this September 2020 born black and white heifer was Messrs Jones, Lampeter, Ceredigion. She is a daughter of Dodou De St Remacle, out of the Tweeddale Ebony daughter, Clifftown Ladyluck.

Charolais were also in high demand throughout with prices peaking at 20,000gns for Gretnahouse Pouncer from Alasdair Houston, Gretna House, Kirkpatrick, Dumfries.

The 48 bulls sold levelled out at £7207.81, with seven females averaging £2250.

After taking reserve champion the previous day, all eyes were on this Westcarse Jimmy son, out of Gretnahouse Japan, which is by Balthayock Gladiator. This October 2019 born bull was chapped down to H and H Heron, Sunnyside, Northern Ireland.

Another by the same sire, Gretnahouse Pimp realised 16,000gns, this time selling in a two-way split to Messrs Wardlaw and Son, Balerno, and Messrs Dandie, Broxburn, West Lothian. A similarly aged bull, out of Gretnahouse Jannabel.

The draft sale of Harestone heifers witnessed a top call of 6000gns for Harestone Pasadena from Neil and Stuart Barclay, the seven heifers sold averaged £4890. This October 2019 heifer is a daughter of Balthayock Minstrel, out of an Allanfauld Gambler daughter, Harestone Lively, and sold in-calf to Harestone Oscar. Messrs Gregory, Truro, Cornwall, were the final bidders.
