A round up of special sales for the week at various auction markets.

Carlisle

Bullocks and heifers averaged £1100 and £1050 respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 578 store cattle.

A top price of £1620 was paid on two occasions – for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Batey, High Knells, and for a Charolais bullock from Messrs Johnstone Westray, Cockermouth.

Heifers sold to £1480 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Ash View, Wigton.

A smaller show of 208 weanlings was topped at £1520 by Limousin heifers from George Rome, Niven Hill, while bulls sold to £1400 for two Herefords from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Ross.

On Monday, breeding sheep were topped at £140 per life for Texel cross hoggs with Dutch Texel cross lambs from Messrs Armstrong, Town Head, Walton.

A Limousin bull from Bualnaluib, Aultbea, led Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 323 adult head of breeding cattle, when selling for 4500gns.

Heifers with calves sold to £2700 on two occasions, firstly for a British Blue with a Limousin cross bull calf from The Arr, Lethen, and again for a Simmental cross and Limousin cross heifer calf from Wester Bleaton, Bridge of Cally.

Cows sold to £2300 for Simmental cross with Limousin heifer calf from Wester Bleaton, with the same home selling a Charolais cross with a Limousin bull calf for £2050.

In-calf heifers sold to £1700 twice for Limousin crosses from Rychraggan, Drumnadrochit, whilst in-calf cows hit £1750 for Shorthorns from Lochlait, Abriachan.

Some 406 sheep of all classes were also forward, where trade peaked at £200 for a Millennium Blue ram from Dunearn Farm, Nairn.

Ewes with lambs at foot sold to £114 for Cheviot ewes with Cheviot lambs from Benhaint, Kilchoan.

Charolais crosses from Abberymill, secured the lead prices at United Auctions' sale of 1122 store cattle, when selling to 323p per kg and 297.30p for a 209kg bullock and a 222kg heifer respectively.

Top price per head at £1510 was paid for a 754kg British Friesian cross bullock from Hill of Arnmore. Bullocks cashed in at 240.05p.

Whilst heifers peaked at £1400 for a 532kg British Blue cross from Kinneil Mill, to balance out at 237.63p.

Young bulls averaged 210.79p having sold to 248.60p for a Limousin cross from Beechwood, and to £1300 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Halbeath.

The annual term sale peaked at £2700 for a second calved cow from Messrs Dagg, Craighouse.

Ewes and lambs cashed in at £91.76, having sold to £144 for Scotch Mule hoggs with Suffolk lambs at foot from Messrs McClymont, Tinnis.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 234.6p per kg and 228.5p respectively at Craig Wilson's sale of 425 store cattle

Heifers sold to £1400 for a Charolais from Cloquhairnan, and to 265p for Limousins from High Woodston.

Aberdeen-Angus from Pirleyhill topped the bullocks at £1365, with a lead price per kg of 287.1p paid for a Charolais from Auchneight.

The 104 calves and stirks were topped at £575 for a Limousin cross bull calf from John L McCubbin and Son, Garrockhill.

Heifer calves peaked at £505 for a British Blue cross from TS Smith, Haysmuir.

Some 25 store, feeding sheep and 145 ewes with lambs were also forward, and sold to £272 for six Suffolk cross ewes with 10 Texel cross lambs at foot from D Morrison, Dalwyne.

Mule gimmers sold to £262 for twin Texel lambs from Messrs Paterson, East Dykes.

Heifers led the way at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale, selling to 325.3p per kg for a 332kg Limousin cross from Barnyards of Badenyoucher, Cornhill, and to £1920 for a 670kg British Blue cross from Wardhead, Sauchen.

Heifers (472) averaged 236.4p whilst bullocks (404) cashed in at 252.5p.

Limousin crosses came out on top among the bullocks at 309.5p for a 336kg entry from Carron Mains, Aberlour, and to £1460 for a 648kg lot from Corse of Kinnoir, Huntly.

On Tuesday, the 390 breeding cattle sold to £4350 for a Limousin cross heifer with bull calf from Meikle Geddes, Nairn.

Two lots then made £3250 – a Limousin cross heifer with heifer calf from Witton Farms, Edzell, and a Simmental cross cow with bull calf from Smallburn Farms, Duffus.

The part dispersal of the Smallburn herd also saw a £3150 sale for a Simmental cross cow with heifer calf.

Breeding bulls peaked at £2850 for a Charolais from Bankhead, Clatt.

On Monday, the firm's sale of 162 breeding cattle peaked at £6500 for a heifer and her heifer calf at foot for Craig and Teen Malone of Pitcairn, Cardenden.

Cows with calves sold to £2600 for a Limousin with an Aberdeen-Angus calf at foot from T Hamilton, Bridge House, Linglithgow.

A Simmental bullock from Long Beoch topped the stores at £1280, whilst heifers realised £1260 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Hillside.

Top price per kg was 270.6p for a Simmental heifer from Killumpha, Port Logan.

Topping the trade at £1425 was a 630kg Simmental heifer from J Sinclair, Midhouse, Harray, or 252.2p for a Charolais scaling 345kg from RBS Heard, Huip, Stronsay.
