Special sales for the week from various markets throughout the country.

Carlisle

A smaller entry of 389 store cattle was forward for Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, where prices peaked at £1600 on two occasions – for a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Batey, High Knells Farm, Carlisle, and for another of the same from Messrs Stamper, Rose, Cockermouth

A Limousin also secured lead £1560 bid among the heifers for Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth.

The 350 bulls and weaners were topped at £1520 by a Limousin bull from Messrs Pattinson of Bonshawside.

Heifers and bullocks realised £990 for a British Blue from Mr Lord, The Bog, and a Charolais from Messrs Ackerley, Milton Mains, respectively.

The sale of 352 young calves was topped at £605 per head for two British Blue bulls from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, whilst heifers peaked at £525 for more of the same from T and AW Wadsworth, Big Balcraig, Newton Stewart.

On Monday, breeding sheep sold to £165 per life for Texel cross hoggs with Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Browell, Quarry House Farm, Hexham.

Dingwall

Smallburn Farms, Duffus, produced most of the top priced lots at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 149 breeding cattle with the dearest at £5000 being a Charolais bull.

The firm also sold cows with calves at £3350 on two occasions, firstly for a Beef Shorthorn cross with a bull calf and again for a Simmental cross with heifer calf.

Heifers with calves from Smallburn were topped by a Beef Shorthorn cross heifer with bull calf at foot making £2600, whilst a Simmental cross heifer with heifer calf at foot realised £2800.

In-calf heifers hit a top of £1220 for a Limousin cross from Granish Farm, Aviemore.

The firm's sale of 220 store cattle saw bullocks and heifers average 250.8p per kg and 241.4p respectively.

Limousin crosses led the bullocks at 323.1p for a 195kg entry from Bracara, Morar, and £1460 for a 660kg animal from Bog of Auchterflow, Munlochy.

Heifers sold to 285.2p for a 270kg Hereford cross from Ardtornish Farms, Morven, and to £1380 for a 625kg Aberdeen-Angus from Ballindalloch Home Farms, Ballindalloch.

Limousin crosses from Kingsburgh, Snizort, topped the young bulls at 271.2p for a 295kg entry and £920 for a 395kg beast.

Charolais crosses from Berrydyke, led the way at United Auctions' weekly sale, selling to 317.50p per kg and 289p for a 252kg bullock and 261kg heifer respectively.

Bullocks (343) averaged 234.43p, whilst heifers (325) cashed in at 223.83p.

Simmental crosses secured the lead prices per head at £1320 for a 594kg bullock from Wester Mye, and to £1490 for a 772kg heifer from Over Buttergask.

Young bulls (15) averaged 209.28p, having sold to 237.40p for a Simmental cross from Overton, and to £1260 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Blairmore.

Breeding sheep were led by Suffolk hoggs from Willowbank reaching £105, with Mule ewes and single Texel cross lambs from Glenshellach making £70.00.

All classes sold well at Craig Wilson's sale of 113 calves and stirks, where trade peaked at £960 on two occasions for bullock stirks – for a Charolais from Hill, and again for a Limousin from Pinvalley.

Limousins from Dalhowan led the heifer stirks at £820.

Calves peaked at £570 for a Limousin heifer, whilst more of the same topped the bulls at £530 for Blackbyres.

Dairy cattle were topped at £2080 for a Friesian calved cow from Borland, followed by another at £1900 from Coilsholm.

The firm also sold 174 breeding cattle which hit a top of £2650 for Limousin heifer with bull calf from Ballycurrie.

Bullocks sold to 311.4p for a 334kg Limousin cross from Sheep Park Farms, Bridge of Marnoch, and to £1530 for a 690kg Lincoln Red cross from Hillside, Dufftown.

Charolais crosses weighing 312kg led the heifers at 272.4p for Trondheim Farm, Rendall, and to £1540 for a 566kg Simmental cross from Wallfield, Lochhills.

Bulls from Upper Forgie, Keith, attracted the lead price per kg of 259.2p for a 382kg Limousin and to £1230 for a 590kg Simmental.

Trade was much sharper on the week for the 892 hoggs, gimmers and ewes with lambs at foot which sold to £137 for a Texel gimmer with a single lamb from Braigiewell, Echt.

Texel hoggs with Texel lambs from Messrs Dunlop, Hillhead, led the way at Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale, selling to £138 per life.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 262 store cattle at their fortnightly sale, where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 227.18p per kg and 216.78p respectively.

Topping the bullocks at £1315 was a 638kg British Blue from Craigthornhill, and a lead price per kg of 283.3p was paid for a 300kg Limousin from Burnbrae, Lesmahagow.

Heifers peaked at £1345 for two 554kg Simmental heifers, and to 255.1p for a 294kg Limousin from Burnbrae, Lesmahagow.

Dairy bullocks were topped at £795 and 197.3p for two Friesians from Craigends.

A Blonde cross heifer from Messrs Walker, Houselope Grange, secured the top price of £1520 at Hexham and Northern Marts' sale of 486 store cattle.

The 306 head of beef breeding cattle forward for C and D Auctions' annual sale saw prices peak at£2600 for a Limousin cross heifer with bull calf from Garmartin.

The 200 store cattle sold saw bullocks and heifers cash in at 227.7p per kg and 224.1p respectively.

Limousins from Harley Rigg led the bullocks at £1300, with Simmentals from Auld Mills, making 352p.

Heifers reached £1180 for Limousins from High Auchneel, and to 313.5p for a Charolais from East Buccleuch.

A Limousin from Denbieyett, topped the bulls at £1160.
