Some 592 store cattle achieved an average of £1219 at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale.

Top overall at £1950 was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan, whilst the females hit £1930 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Beattie, Shield Green, Carlisle.

A larger entry forward of weaned cattle were forward where trade topped at £1530 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Burrow, The Lodges.

Limousin steers made £1150 from Messrs Elliot, Hallburn Croft, whilst more of the same breed topped the heifers at £1240 for a pair from Messrs Evans of Halmyre.

The firm also held their weekly sale of 230 calves, which witnessed £570 being achieved on five occasions firstly for a Limousin bull from Messrs Graham, Rose Castle, Carlisle and then again for four Limousin bulls all from Messrs Wilson, Gate, Wigton, who also topped the heifers at £470 with more of the same.

The monthly Beef Breeding sale, witnessed a top price of 3400gns paid for an Aberdeen-Angus bull from Linda Wilson, Bridge View.

On Monday, the firm held their weekly sale of store and breeding sheep, where a top of £126 was paid for Texel cross hoggs with single lambs at foot from Geltside.

A strong trade was met at Craig Wilson's sale of 520 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 238.2p per kg and 235p respectively.

Top price of the day was £1640 paid for a pair of 655kg Limousin bullocks from Straid Farms, and to 291p for Aberdeen-Angus bullocks off Low Ballees.

Heifers attained £1585 for a 605kg Limousin from Straid Farms, and to 286.6p for Simmental heifers from Langalbuinoch, Rothesay.

All classes of sheep sold to £288 for a pen of 10 Texel cross ewes with twin lambs from the Cousar family, Howcommon, whilst Texel ewes with single lambs realised £222 from the same home.

On Tuesday, the small show of 16 dairy cattle sold to £2420 for a Friesian heifer from Dykehead.

Heifers and bullocks averaged 241.1p per kg and 250p respectively.

Limousin crosses dominated all sections, with the per head section selling to £1340 for bullocks and £990 for heifers both coming from Messrs MacDonald, 103 Carnan.

Limousin cross bullocks realised 264p for Messrs Smith, 1 Sollas, North Uist, with heifers attaining 256p/ for Messrs MacDonald from 12 Sollas, North Uist.

On the sheep front, a joint top price of £100 was achieved on two occasions, firstly for Texel cross ewes from IS Morrison, Rhughasinish, and again for Texel cross ewe hoggs from F MacBain, North Uist.
