Limousins achieved a joint top price of £1860 at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly store cattle sale for bullocks from Messrs Stamper, Rose, Dearham, and bullocks and heifers from Messrs Johnston, Westray, Cockermouth.

A 12-year-old Saler cow and calf realised £1680 for Messrs Strick, Overby House.

Among the weaned cattle Limousins secured the top spots, firstly at £1420 for heifers from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside, and to £1210 for steers from Messrs Ivinson, Cooper House.

The weekly sale of 308 calves witnessed a top call of £575 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Wood, Groundy Croft, whilst a Charolais led the heifer trade at £540 for Messrs Little, North Greenhill.

A smaller show of ewes and hoggs with lambs was forward on Monday, reaching a top of £126 per life for Texel hoggs with lambs from Paul and Jayne Inman, Kilnknowe, Lockerbie.

Bullocks (245) and heifers (257) cashed in at 242.26p per kg and 228.83p respectively at United Auctions' weekly sale.

British Blue crosses from Mid Shawton, led the pence per kg section when selling 332kg bullocks to 313.30p and 328kg heifers to 307.90p.

A 576kg Simmental cross bullock attained £1440 for Gladhouse Mains, and to £1700 for a 718kg Simmental cross heifer from Burnhead.

Young bulls (20) averaged 220.01p having sold to 248.30p for a Limousin cross from Greenyards, and to £1390 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Carse of South Coldoch.

On Monday, the firm also sold 1372 breeding sheep to a top of £122 per life on two occasions, firstly for Suffolk hoggs with single Beltex cross lambs at foot from Carse of Trowan, and again for Cheviot hoggs with single Suffolk cross lambs from Over Blainslie.

Texel cross ewes with Beltex cross twin lambs from Inch Cottage realised £121.

Limousins secured the top prices among the bullocks at 289.6p for 404kg animals from Cairntack, Belhelvie, and to £1950 for a pair of 704kg entries from Woodhead of Cairnbanno, New Deer.

Heifers reached 335.6p for a pair of 432kg British Blue crosses from Bogie Street, and to £1620 for a pair of 616kg Charolais from Balthayock Farms, Perth.

Bulls sold to 289.5p for a 190kg Limousin from Upper Forgie, Keith, and to £1580 for a 698kg Simmental from Delfur Farms, Rothes.

More than 1000 breeding sheep also came under the hammer, where hoggs, gimmers and ewe with lambs achieved an overall average of £77.24.

On Tuesday, the firm held their fortnightly sale of 267 store cattle, where bullocks (147) and heifers (120) cashed in at 244.1p per kg and 237.67p respectively.

Simmentals led the bullocks at £1465 for a 590kg entry from Whitehill, and to 286.2p for a 276kg animal from Skipness Est.

Among the heifers trade peaked at £1530 for a 672kg British Shorthorn from Westmains, and to 266.1p for a 436kg Limousin from Mannerston Holdings.

British Blues from Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, led the calves at £425 and £370 for bulls and heifers respectively.

The firm also held a special sale of 55 dairy cattle, which witnessed a top call of £3000 for a Fleckvieh cross Holstein heifer, giving 30 litres from JM and J Fisher and Daughters, Holmwrangle.
