Hitting the top spot in the prime lamb ring was a 66kg Texel from D Stewart and Son, Mains of Dalrulzion, which attained £146, whilst top price per kg was 286p for a 43kg Texel from AD Beaton, Newmill of Inshewan.

Cast sheep (56) realised £133 for a Texel from WN Lindsay, Cairnleith.

Newton Stewart

A Texel led Craig Wilson's weekly sale, when selling to £145 for H and J McCulloch, Dunkeld, having averaged 245.3p with a SQQ of 252.5p.

Top pence per kg at 271.4kg was a Beltex from S and A McCaig, Mount Pleasant.

Cast sheep reached £150 for Suffolks from A Wallace and Co, Claycrop, whilst rams hit £145 for a Beltex consigned by JL McMillan, Carse O’Clary.

Dumfries

Prime cattle sold easier on the week at C and D Auction Marts' weekly sale, where 296p per kg was paid for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, whilst Simmentals achieved £1396.75 for Newbie Mains.

Trade lifted among the 1039 prime lambs, having topped at £131 for Texels from Druidhall/Braco, whilst more of the same breed led the ewe trade at £122 for Foregirth.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts had forward 154 cattle this week, where Limousins led the heifers at 310p per kg for DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill, and to £1902 for AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty.

Bullocks sold to 295p on two occasions both from J and J Wyllie, Knockhouse, Fife, and to £1930 for a Limousin from Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill.

On Tuesday, 2097 prime sheep were also forward, leading the way at £150 was a Beltex from G and J Davie, Harviesmailing, Denny, and at 322p were more of the same from Doune Farms, Doune.

The overall average levelled at 241.39p.

Texels led the cast ewes at £189 for PG Perring and Son, Hoprig, Cockburnspath.

Thainstone

Bullocks (5) and heifers (21) averaged 233.7p per kg and 241.3p respectively at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale.

Limousins from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall, led the bullock trade at 269p for a 625kg entry and to £1779.05 for a 805kg animal.

A 640kg Limousin heifer from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, made 285p and £1824.

Young bulls (16) averaged 225.9p and sold to 271p for a 630kg Limousin from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, and to £2214.50 for a 1030kg Limousin from Easterside, Dunnotar.

The firm also sold 399 cast cows and bulls to average £1285.26.

Also forward were 2157 prime sheep and feeding ewes and rams, where new season prime lambs (1048) averaged 245p per kg (+29p) and sold to 281p for Beltexs from Craigshowdie, Ardallie and to £138 for Texels from The cottages, Wardes.

Texels led the feeding ewes at £250 for Skelbister, Orphir.

St Boswells

Bullocks (22) and heifers (50) averaged 268p per kg and 287p at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly prime sale.

Bullocks sold to £2095.68 and 310p for Mossburnford and Learielaw respectively, whilst Learielaw also led the heifers at £1984 and 320p.

Lambs (1351) averaged 250p per kg (+10p on the week), with Texel reaching £153 for Philiphaugh, whilst Beltex made 288.9p for Wester Ulston.

Sale top of ewes topped at £143 for a Suffolk cross from EMcNeil, Millheugh.

Lanark

On Monday, Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, secured the top prices at Lawrie and Symington's Sale of prime stock, having sold heifers to 310p per kg on three occasions, with more of the same making £2119, bullocks made 298p.

Bullocks per head reached £2041 from Ferguson Bros, Gillandersland, Linlithgow.

Dairy cows sold to £1350 per head from Messrs Struthers, Moatmains Farm, Lesmahagow or to 177p from Messrs Russell, Cobblehaugh Farm, Lanark.

The same day 3983 lambs came under the hammer to average 245p per kg and a SQQ of 245p.

This section topped at £156 for Texels from Legars Ltd, Kelso and to 302p per kg for a pen of Beltex from Murray, Calton.

Another larger show of 2747 cast ewes and rams were forward which topped at £304 for Texels from Legars Ltd, Kelso.

Ayr

On Monday, Craig Wilson sold 3354 sheep where 2690 prime lambs cashed in at 244.6p, having reached a top of £145 for a Dutch Spotted from D Welsh, West Broadmoss, and to 295.1p for a pen of Texels from JW Kay and Son, Gass.

Cast sheep achieved £250 for a pair of Texel ewes from A Meikle, Helentongate.

On Tuesday, 142 prime and cast cattle, witnessed heifers average 285.1p, where a Limousin cross heifer from the Smith family at North Boig made 308p.

Dingwall

On Tuesday, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd, sold 10 prime cattle, where heifers averaged 255.4p per kg, having sold to 262.0p per kg for a 575kg Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall, and to £1593.90 for a 630kg Charolais cross from Mountrich, Dingwall.

A 695kg Limousin cross bullock attained 243.0p and £1688.85 for Wester Muckernich, Tore.

Among the sheep ring, 521 prime sheep came under the hammer, where 825 new season lambs averaged 229.1p (-0.5p) and sold to 247.6p for a pen of 42kg Beltex crosses from Murrial, Insch and the same home sold 58.5kg Suffolk crosses for £128.

Feeding sheep (242) sold to £145 for a Texel cross ewe from Ballicherry, Balblair.

Castle Douglas

Prime lambs achieved an average of 240.19p per kg and a SQQ of 240.19p at Wallets Marts' weekly sale.

Top price of £135 was paid for Texels from Messrs Williamson, Breckoniehill, with more of the same reaching 266.7p this time from Shennanton Livestock.

Cast sheep sold to £123 for Texel ewes from Messrs Armstrong, Farhills and rams peaked at £191 for a Bluefaced Leicester from Messrs Wallace, Hannaston.

Longtown

An Angus from JA and E Dinwoodie, Archerbeck, Canonbie, secured £1494 at C and D Auction Marts' Sale, with a Belted Galloway making 182p for B Rae, Chesters Brae, Hawick.

A larger show of 4705 prime lambs were forward where an average of 258.7p and a SQQ of 259.3p was achieved.

Topping the trade at 350p was Dutch Texel lambs from EJC Dean, Kirkhouse, Brampton, and to £172 for Texels from Messrs Peterkin, Barnyards, Beauly.

Another large entry of 5513 cast ewes and rams reached £288 for Texels from J Robertson and Son, Becks, Langholm.

Penrith

Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 6147 prime sheep, which cashed in at 258p per kg.

Topping at 352p was 42kg Beltex cross Texels from M Bindloss and Son, Shap Abbey.

Cast ewes hit £290 for W Morrison, South Bogbain.
