A 490kg Charolais cross from Blacksheils, led the heifer trade at 332.70p, whilst a 629kg Aberdeen-Angus cross form Kininmonth, secured £1900.

Broughton

A Limousin bullock from JC and SJ Halton, Scarr Head, secured the top price of £1620 at Harrison and Hetherington's annual April Fair show and Sale.

Bullocks cashed in at £1088.85, with heifers averaging £1016.88.

Heifers sold to £1510 for a Limousin cross from A Hartley, Turner Hall, with the same home recieving the reserve honours in the pre-sale show with a similar type which later realised £1370.

The show was judged by Mark Stamper, Rose, Cockermouth, who placed his champion animal in a Limousin bullock from DJ and MJ Hoggarth, Old Hall, which went to sell for £1500.

Carlisle

Scottish breeders, Lloyd Fowlie, Alford, Aberdeenshire, produced the top price of £4800 at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly store cattle sale with a British Blue cross heifer.

The sale averaged £1402.70, with bullocks topping at £2100 for a Limousin from Messrs Johnson, Low Flow, Wigton.

The weekly sale of weaned cattle topped at £1640 for British Blue bulls from Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry.

Bullocks and heifers were also a strong trade with Friesian bullocks selling to £1280 from Messrs Foster, and Aberdeen-Angus heifers peaked at £1260 from Messrs Tattershall, Enzieholm.

On Monday, the firm conducted the sale of 258 ewes and lambs which were short of requirements, having sold to £128 per life for a Texel gimmer with a pair of Texel lambs from B Harrison, Low Haven.

Hoggs and lambs attained £115 for a Texel hogg with single lambs from NJ and JM Todhunter, Wigton.

Heifers topped at £1700 for a Simmental from Howcommon, and to 344p for a pen of Limousins from Ballycurrie, to balance out at 278.8p.

A small show of store and breeding sheep witnessed dry ewe hoggs make £116 for a pen of Mules from R McCrone, Daisy Place.

Ewes and lambs averaged £83.94, having received a top call of £113 for a pen of Cheviot ewes with single Border Leicester lambs from L Howat, Darroch Brae.

On Tuesday, the weekly sale of 76 calves and stirks, where trade soared to £1050 for Aberdeen-Angus bullock stirks from Main Street, with the same home leading the heifers at £1010.

Calves peaked at £640 for a pair of Aberdeen-Angus heifers from East Montgarswood, whilst bulls attained £600 for more of the same from West Cairngarroch.

A joint top price of £2000 was achieved for both bullocks and heifers at Hexham and Northern Marts' special monthly sale of native breed cattle within their weekly store sale.

Firstly was an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from Messrs Watson, Holywell Farms, whilst a Limousin cross heifer from Jasper and James Wardle, Brokenheugh, also made the same money.

Some 684 store hoggs, achieved an average of £100.26, with trade reaching £180 for a Texel from S and M Pickworth, Dotland Park.

A single Mule hogg with a Suffolk cross lamb at foot sold to £104/life from GA Litt, Hepple Hill.

On Monday, Caledonian Marts sold 237 ewes with lambs at foot and store hoggs at their opening sale, which reached a high of £116 for a pen of Texel store hoggs from L Elles, Balgonar, Saline.

Ewes with lambs attained £76 a life for a pen of Mule ewes with a mixture of single and twin lambs at foot from J and J Kinloch, Walton, Cardross.
