Store values remain strong on the week across the country

Bullocks sold to 369.60p for a 349kg Charolais cross from Glenrath, and to £1970 for a 653kg Limosuin cross from Leyshade.

Limousin crosses dominated the heifer trade at 352.30p for a 386g entry from Newhouse of Glamis, and to £2010 for a 702kg heifer from Wester Kinloch.

Young bulls (28) averaged 235.85p having reached 257.70p for a Simmental cross from Hole O Clean and to £1245 for a Beef Shorthorn cross from Mount Benger.

Also forward were 448 breeding cattle, which hit £5000 for a British Blue heifer with a heifer calf at foot from Middlehill.

Cows with bull calves reached £4500 for a Limousin outfit from Pitcairn.

Carlisle

A Simmental bullock from TH and PA Johnston, Westray, Cockermouth, led the trade at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, when selling for £1980.

Heifers sold to £1690 for a British Blue from Messrs Fell, Harley Croft, Wigton.

The weekly sale of weaned cattle reached £1400 for a Limousin heifer from Messrs Langcake, whilst the same breed led the bullock trade at £1350 for Messrs Story, New Hummersecks.

Bulls reached £1380 on two occasions again for Limousins from Messrs Hall, Baggarah, and Messrs Routledge, Netherton.

The Spring show and sale of calves was led by the pre-sale champion, a British Blue bull, from Messrs Beard, Dormansteads, when it sold for £690.

Reserve went to a Limousin bull from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale, which later sold for £610.

Heifers achieved £580 on two occasions both for British Blues from Messrs Martin, Tempest Tower.

All classes met a solid trade among the ewes with lambs, having topped at £108 per life for Suffolk with lambs from Springhill, Berwick.

All classes sold well at Craig Wilson's sale of 488 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers cashed in at 289.6p per kg and 279.9p respectively.

Bullocks led proceedings with a top call of £1940 paid for Limousin from North Waterland and Laigh Langcraig, whilst top pence per kg of 343.8p was received for a pen of Charolais off Cutcloy.

Limousins led all sections among the heifers with trade peaking at £1800 for Auchentibbert, and to 343p for Back O’Hill.

Also forward was the fortnightly sale of ewe and lambs which achieved an overall average of £86.03.

Messrs McWhirter, Burnockston, sold two pens of Texel cross hoggs with single Beltex lambs for £130 per life.

Ewes sold to £110 per life for a pen of Texel cross ewes and single lambs from JD McMillan and Son, Eskechraggan, whilst gimmers were led by Texel crosses with twin and single lambs at foot from M and F Burns, Glenside.

On Tuesday, six dairy cattle sold to £1950 for a Holstein Friesian second calver from Messrs Steel, Ditton.

A mixed show of 83 calves and stirks witnessed a top call of £990 for Aberdeen-Angus cross bullocks from Kirkcowan, with the same breed leading the heifers at £910 for Rottenyard.

Top price calf of £630 was paid for a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Campbell, Low Ballees, with bulls achieving £590 on two occasions, firstly for a pen of three Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Messrs Vance, Low Barledziew, and again for a similar type from Messrs Campbell, Low Ballees.

Limousin crosses led all sections at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly store cattle sale with a 294kg bullock making 410.1p per kg, whilst a 244kg heifer made 401.6p both coming from Ceol-Na-Mara, Ardtoe

Bullocks (428) averaged 310p and sold to £2380 for a 796kg entry from Windsoer, Enzie, whilst heifers (351) cashed in at 296.6p having peaked at £1820 for a 642kg Limousin cross from Bogmill, Pitcaple.

Saler crosses from Lower Gaich, Grantown-On-Spey, led the bull trade at 321.4p for a pen of three weighing 406kg, and again to £1595 for a 550kg pair.

On Tuesday, 183 head of adult breeding cattle also went under the hammer, with a joint top price of £3650 paid twice both for Limousin heifers with Limousin bull calves from Witton Farms, Edzell.

A British Blue cross heifer with a heifer calf peaked at £3600 for Overton of Ardo, Methlick.

Wester Bleaton, Bridge of Cally, led the cows and calves with a Beef Shorthorn cross and bull calf making £3600, and a Simmental cross cow with a heifer calf realising £3450.

Breeding bulls (4) sold to 5900gns for a Limousin from Cairntack, Belhelvie.
