Limousin crosses also led the heifer trade at 409.70p for a 155kg entry from Coach House, and to £1900 for a 552kg heifer from Nether Dalkeith.

A British Blue cross steer from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle, led Harrison and Hetherington's weekly store cattle sale at £1880.

Heifers saw a top of £1690 for Limousin heifers from Messrs McFadden, Shawhill, Lockerbie.

Bullocks from Messrs Mattinson, Green, led the weaned cattle trade at £1470.

Limousin bulls peaked at £1390 from Messrs Kermode, with heifers reaching £1310 on two occasions, firstly from Messrs Lanecake of Sandhills, and again from Messrs Reid, Kirkburn.

A larger show of 307 were forward which met one of the dearest trades recently seen, having sold to £625 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Martin, Hesleywell.

Heifers topped at £585 for a British Blue from DT and G Young, Crummock Bank.

On Monday, the firm held their ‘Late May’ show and sale of 800 ewes and lambs, which achieved an overall average of £110 per life.

Top price of the day went to gimmers with single lambs from Messrs Browell, when realising £188 per life.

Champion rosette was awarded to the pen of hoggs from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale which later sold for £170 and the reserve going to Messrs Carr, Little Bavington for £172.

Limousins from Easter Aberchalder, Gorthleck, led the bull trade at 340.3p for a 432kg Limousin and to £1580 for a 562kg entry.

On Monday, Caledonian Marts sold 227 store cattle at their fortnightly sale, where bullocks led proceedings, selling to 340p per kg for a pen of Limousins from Glenside Farms, Plean, and to £1620 for a pen of Shorthorns from W Taylor and Son, Jawpark, Slamannan.

Heifers sold to 290p for Limousins from A and M Gray, Craighead, Torrance, and to £1450 for Simmentals from Old Hall Farms, Stranraer.

A Limousin cross steer from Frank and Reg Simpson, Square House, secured the top price of £1990 at Hexham and Northern Marts' weekly sale of 388 store cattle and suckled calves.

Leading the heifer trade was a British Blue from R Carr, Little Bavington which cashed at £1940.

A small show of 223 hoggs reached £176 for a pen of Texel crosses from Messrs Henderson, Burntongues.

On Tuesday, Craig Wilson sold two dairy cattle to £1920 for a fresh calved Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs Craig, Tannockhill.

A smaller show of 70 calves and stirks peaked at £910 for a British Blue cross stirk from Messrs Dalgleish, Drummullan.

Calves sold to £595 for a Charolais cross bull from Messrs Montgomerie, Lessnessock, with heifer calves to £565 for a Limousin cross off Kaimhill Farming.

On Tuesday, C and D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of 1236 ewes and hoggs with lambs at foot where ewes and lambs sold to the dearest trade this season, having peaked at £139 a life for a pair of Texel ewes with twin lambs at foot consigned by J and S Anderson, Stouslie, Hawick.

Hoggs and lambs made £136 for three Texel hoggs from the same home.
