All classes eased in value for prime lambs at C and D Auction marts' sale this week, with a top of £156 being paid for Charollais from Maryholm, and to 324p per kg for Texels Maryfield.

Cast ewes peaked at £180 for Texels from Skipmyre, with continental rams to £110 from Peithyll.

Thainstone

Bullocks led proceedings at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale, with a top call of 327p per kg paid for a 625kg Limousin cross from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, and to £2242.50 for a 690kg Charolais cross from Sunhoney, Echt .

Heifers sold to 325p for a 600kg Limousin from Auchmaliddie Mains, and to £2125.20 for a 840kg Aberdeen-Angus from Darrahill, Udny.

Young bulls sold to 272p for a 750kg Limousin cross from West Knock, Mintlaw, and to £2236 for a 860kg Limousin from Tullywhanland, Aberlemno.

On the sheep front 1728 prime sheep and feeding ewes and rams also came under the hammer, with new season prime lambs (348) balancing out at 270.8p (-19.8p) and sold to 300p for 40kg Texels from West Teuchan, Cruden Bay and to £145 for more of the same breed weighing 53kg from Mid Newton, Skelmuir.

Old season prime lambs (633) also witnessed a drop in average to level at 218.9p (-35.9p) and attained a top price of 301.9p for 53kg Beltexs from Muirfield, Everton of Auchry, and to £170 for a 101kg Texel from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Stirling Cally

Heifers and bullocks cashed in at 306.47p per kg and 300.04p respectively at Caledonian Marts' weekly prime sale.

Limousins led the heifer trade at 332ppkg for JH and NT Turnball, Meadowend, Clackmannannd, and to £2079 for JA Peters, West Bog, Kirriemuir .

Bullocks soared to 328p for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, and to £2248 for a Charolais from T Paul and Sons, Airleywight, Bankfoot.

Bulls sold to 295p for an Aberdeen-Angus from R Cook, Kinneil Mill, Linlithgow, and to £2747 for a Charolais D MacGregor, Burnhead, Kilsyth.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 930 prime lambs, hoggs, cast ewes and tups at their weekly prime stock sale, where prime lambs achieved an SQQ of 298p per kg and sold to 369p for Texels from P G Perring and Son, Hoprig, Cockburnspath and to £169 for more of the same from KA and J Robertson, Over Baldinnie, Cupar.

Texels also led the hoggs at 286p for W Nisbet, Bogside, Langbank, and to £146 for Goldenlea Farms, Gryffewraes, Bridge of Weir

Cast ewes soared to £250 for a Texel from Drimsynie Estate, Lochgoilhead.

Longtown

Cast cows reached £1548 for a Limousin from Shankbridge End Farm Ltd, Shankbridge End, Hethersgill, at C and D auction markets' sale.

A smaller of 722 spring lambs sold to average 300.7p, with a SQQ of 305.8p. Topping the trade were Beltex and Texel lambs from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries, at 379p and £160 respectively.

Prime hoggs (2034) averaged 234.4p with a SQQ of 225.2p, with Beltex leading proceedings at 314p from N Retson, Maidencots, Abington, and to £185 for S Stoddart, Hillside, Wigton.

A larger show 3730 cast ewes peaked at £250 for Texels from RD Fleming, Hillhead, Kirkpatrick Fleming and Whitehill.

Ayr

On Monay, Craig Wilson ltd sold 1272 sheep, with 728 prime lambs cashing in at 305p per kg or £132 per head, having reached £164 for a Texel from the Shearer family, East Revoch, and to 341p for a pair of Beltex crosses from Brian Notman, Redding.

A much smaller selection of hoggs peaked at £159 for Texels from Messrs Richmond, High Grange, and to 296p for Blackfaces off Messrs Wilson, Dykes.

Texel ewes from S Heads, Aitkenhead, reached the heights of £188 whilst a Texel tup made £175 for J Miller, Rowanhill.

Prime cattle sold at similar rates to last week, reaching a top of 333p per kg for a Charolais heifer from the Borthwick family, Mid Wellwood, and to £1929.30p for a Limousin heifer from the Smith family, North Boig, with heifers cashing in at 311.1p.

Penrith

A small entry of dairy-bred heifers were forward from W Schug, Bongate Moor, at Penrith and District Farmers' marts' fortnightly sale, having topped at 249.5p per kg and £1586.82 for a Limousin weighing 636kg.

St Boswells

Bullocks (30) and heifers (38) averaged 292p per kg and 300p respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale.

Bullocks sold to £2131.20 from Elwick and to 322p from Whitrighill, with heifers peaking at £2022.16 for Lurdenlaw and to 330p for Bee Edge.

Among the prime lambs all types were slightly easier on the week, cashing in at 296p (-10p on the week), and were led by Texels at £169 for Corsbie, and to 328p for Huntington.

Texels from Earlston Mains, led the prime hoggs at £141, having cashed in at 191p.

Cast sheep (463) balanced out at £97.62 and sold to £151 for a Beltex ewe again from Huntington, with a Texel ram from Kilnknowe, making £119.

Lanark

Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, sold Limousin heifers to 348p per kg and £2150 at Lawrie and Symington's weekly prime sale.

Beef cows sold to £1870 from Messrs Taylor, Heatheryhall, Lanark, and to 239p from Messrs Warnock, Dreva, Biggar.

A British Blue heifer calf attained £670 for Messrs Pirie, Machrihanish, Campbeltown.

On the sheep front a Badgerfaced embryo with ewe lambs at foot, topped at £208 and £202 per life for Messrs Morrison, Dalwyne.

A much better show of 410 new season lambs soared to £180 for Texels from Messrs Kemp, Waterside, Alford, and to 375p for Beltex from High Parks Farms, having cashed in at 300p with a SQQ of 301p.

Texels led the hogg trade at £177 for Messrs Clark, Blackhill, Carluke, and to 302p for Messrs Storey, New Hammerbecks, West Auckland, to balance out at 237p and a SQQ of 233p.

A much larger show of 1716 cast ewes and rams, which peaked at £258 for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke.

Dingwall

Averages fell on the week at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 19 prime cattle, with bullocks and heifers levelling at 276.3p per kg (-29.4p) and 291.6p (-5.0p) respectively.

Bullocks sold to 291.0p for a 630kg Simmental cross from Bridgend, Dingwall and to £2001.00 for a 690kg British Blue cross from Brae Edge Farm, Olrig.

A 615kg Limousin cross from Bridgend, Dingwall, led the heifer trade at 320.0p and £1968.00.

Also forward were 261 prime sheep, with new season lambs (61) cashing in at 251.1p having peaked at 286.0p for a pen of 42.5kg Texel crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn, and to £130 for a 51kg Suffolk cross from Loaneckheim, Kiltarlity, and again for a 47kg Texel cross from Invercharron, Ardgay.

Old season lambs (58) reached 196.0p for a pen of 51kg Cheviots from Lynemore, Grantown on Spey, and to £105 for a pen of 66.5kg Texel crosses from Upper Ardnagrask, Muir of Ord.

A pair of Texel ewes from Keepers Cottage, Corrybrough, led the feeding sheep at £198.

Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts had forward 713 prime and cast sheep, with new season lambs achieving an average of 310.53p with a SQQ of 312.42p, with this section selling to £152.50 for Texels from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Ross, and to 328.6p for more of the same from Messrs McCornick, Barnbackle.

Among the prime hoggs a top call of £157 was paid for Texel hoggs from Messrs Ambler, Craigdhu, and to 295p for Blackface from Speddoch Farm Partnership, to balance out at 240.87p.

Cast sheep sold to £160 for Texel ewes from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Ross.

Carlisle

A mixed quality of 61 prime steers and heifers witnessed a top call of £2347.28 for a 789kg Limousin cross steer and to 304.5p for a 633kg Limousin cross both from Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas,

Messrs Craik, Waterside, also led the heifers with a 667kg entry at £2051.03, with a 515kg Charolais cross from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie, making 317.5p.

A plainer show of 86 prime bulls peaked at £2291.18 for a 765kg Limousin from Messrs Moffat, Hillend, Biggar, Lanarkshire.

A large offering of cast sheep sold to a sharper trade on the week topping at £173 from Messrs Moscrop and Waugh, Albyfield .

Spring lambs sold to average £131.03 having attained £172 for a Beltex from JP Graham and Son, The Wreay, Wigton, and to 400p for Dutch Texels from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House, Hexham.

Hoggs sold to £160 for Suffolks from TG Magee, Strathbane.
