Carlisle

A Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Grice, Newtown, Carlisle, secured the top price of £2060 at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly store cattle sale.

Steers peaked at £1860 for a Saler cross from Messrs Roper, Knowehill, Wigton.

A plainer show of weaned cattle peaked at £1300 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Teasdale, Kellah, Haltwhistle, with bullocks to £1100 for a similar type from D Watson, Parcelstown, Sandysike.

Limousin crosses were again in demand among the store bulls selling at £1200 from J and LA Baxter, Monks Farm, Hexham.

Among the weekly sale of calves, an average of £302 was achieved, with a top price of £690 paid for a Charolais bull calf from Messrs McGimpsey, Thorns.

More of the same breed also led the heifers at £570 from Messrs Templeton, Glenlaugh.

On Monday, the firm held their weekly sale of ewes and lambs which achieved an average of £132.05, having soared to £142 per life for a pen of four Texel cross hoggs with Beltex lambs from PT and J Inman, Kilnknowe .

Limousins led proceedings at Craig Wilson's sale of 309 store cattle, with bullocks to £1900 for Keyshill, and to 332.4p per kg for Ladeside.

Among the heifers a top call of £1810 came more of the same breed from the Nelson family, Holmpark, and to 310.5p for Auchentibbert.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 283.4p and 269.61p respectively.

Also forward were 148 lives of ewes and hoggs with lambs at foot, which cashed in at £97.70 per life, having sold to £110 for Mule hoggs and single Roussin lambs from J Kerr, Fernwell

On Tuesday the firm sold four dairy cattle to £2450 for a freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs Steel, Ditton.

Another entry of 99 calves and stirks soared to £1190 for a Simmental cross bull from Messrs Craig, Kirkland, with a pen of three Aberdeen-Angus cross heifers making £950 for Andrew Greer.

Top price calf of £660 was achieved on two occasions, both for British Blue bulls and heifers from Messrs Smith, South Kilbride.

Among the pence per kg it was cattle from Marchbank, that led the way, with a Beef Shorthorn bullock making 299.7p, and a Limousin heifer realising 273.2p.
