Newton Stewart

An average of 283.9p per kg was achieved for 578 lambs at Craig Wilson's sale, with trade peaking at£149 for RJ Manson and Partners, Auchleach and A Wallace and Co, Claycrop, and to 323p for Beltex lambs from C McMillan, Garheugh.

A small offering of cast sheep and hoggs sold to £130 for Texel ewes from J and D Telfer, Bougang, with tups reaching £122 for more of the same from C Hannay- Williams, Blair.

Penrith

A smaller offering of sheep were forward this week for Penrith and District Farmers, however, prime lambs still achieved an average of 297p per kg having sold to 353p for a 43kg Beltex lamb from Messrs Pollock, Braithwaite Mill, and to £154 for a 61kg Rouge lamb from Messrs Mitchell, Grassknop.

Texels led the hogg trade at £140 for J Armstrong, Highrigg, and to 282p for a pen of continentals from H Hird, Westray.

A small entry of cast ewes reached £255 for a pen of three Texel ewes from Messrs Graham, Hallrigg.

Dumfries

Texels from D and M Grierson and Sons, Shambellie Grange, secured the top prices among the prime lambs at C and D auction marts' sale when selling to £156 and 335p per kg, having cashed in at 307p.

A smaller show of cast ewes forward maintained recent rates having soared to £128 for Cheviot Mules from Hartbush, with Texel rams to £190 from Auchenfad.

Limousins led the prime cattle, firstly at 328p for heifers from J Jardine, Yett, and again to £1643.40 for Horseholm.

Stirling (Cale)

Limousins led all sections at Caledonian Marts' weekly prime cattle sale, with heifers and bullocks selling to 328p per kg and 330p respectively both coming from TH Gray, Balquarrage, Lennoxtown.

Heifers averaged 310p and sold to £1922 for a Limousin from D Lumgair and Son, Idvies View, Lethan, with bullocks cashing in at 286p having reached £1970 for another of the same this time from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty.

A Limousin from IG Wilkinson,Balgay, Inchture, led the bull trade at 280p and £1910.

On Tuesday, a smaller show of sheep witnessed lambs achieve an SQQ of 316p per kg and £188, having reached 427p and £188 for Texels from E Robertson, Skeoch, Kilbride.

Cast ewes topped at £230 for a pair of Texels from G Allan, Kingsfield, Linlithgow.

Longtown

A buoyant demand was met at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 3443 sheep, with 1089 spring lambs selling to 320p per kg on three occasions twice for Beltex hoggs firstly from J and E Walby and Sons, East House, Newcastle and again from TC Jackson, Langdyke Cottage, Ecclefechan, with Texel lambs also selling at the same price from GR Scott and Son, Corneyside, Matfen.

An overall average of 292.8p was achieved alongside a SQQ of 295.1p.

A smaller show 2354 cast ewes and rams witnessed a top call of £255 for Texel ewes from J Elliot, Roxburgh Mains, Kelso.

Cast cows maintained recent rates having topped at £1104 for Shorthorn cows from Meikle Whitriggs, Lockerbie with Angus cows selling to 180p from M Baxter, Kiln Hill, Gilsland.

Thainstone

A record entry of 164 prime cattle were forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale with Limousin cross bullocks selling to 301p per kg for a 615kg entry from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, and to £2228.55 for a 895kg animal from Daies, Wardhouse.

Heifers sold to 323p for a 590kg Limousin cross from Middleton of Potterton, and £2066.25 to for a 725kg British Blue cross from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

Young bulls peaked at 259p for a 605kg British Blue from Groam, Kirkhill, and to £2385 for a 1060kg Simmental from Tillyeve, Udny.

The same day the firm sold 1233 prime sheep and feeding ewes and rams, with new season prime lambs (678) averaging 292.1 per kg (+3.5p) having attained 510.6p per kg and £240 for 47kg Texels from Uppermill Farm, Tarves.

Texels also led the feeding ewes and rams having sold to £228 for Home Farm of Auchry, Cuminestown, to cash in at £104.92.

Stirling UA

United Auctions sold 1966 new season lambs to average 287.73p per kg at their weekly sale, having topped at £165 for Beltex from Clochie, and to 336p for Texels from Blinkbonny.

Texels from Dalchrila, led the hogg trade at £160, with Beltex from West Lethans making 285p.

Texels also produced the top prices among the ewes and tups at £215 from Townhead, and to £170 from Letham respectively.

Quoybrae

Aberdeen and Northern Marts' held their weekly prime sheep sale, where new season prime lambs (143) averaged 273.3p per kg having sold to 283.3p for a 45kg Beltex from Quarryside, Castletown, and to £136.50 for a 50kg Texel from Hill of Forss.

A 64kg Suffolk from Ackergill Mains secured the top price of £115.50 among the old season prime lambs.

Feeding ewes and rams (105) averaged £103.50 and sold to £188.50 for a Suffolk from Cairnside, Oldhall.

Ayr

On Monday, Craig Wilson Ltd sold 950 spring lambs to cash in at 308.96p with a SQQ of 309.05p, Texels led proceedings at £161 for T Miller and Son, High Gameshill, and to 347p for RH Allan, Arnsow Farm.

A small show of cast sheep soared to £228 for Texel ewes from Ian C Gilmour and Son, Humeston, with tups attaining £145 for more of the same from Messrs Barclay, St Murray.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 11 heifers and four bullocks to average 309.56p per kg and 249.3p respectively.

Limousins led proceedings when selling to 340p or £2074 for a heifer from the Smith family at North Boig, and to £1390 or 278p for a bullock from J Smith, Birkentop.

St Boswells

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly prime sale, which witnessed heifers from Bee Edge lead the way at £2092.20 and 330p per kg.

Bullocks reached £2031 for Pathhead, and to 310p for Penston, with bulls from Stuartslaw making £2172.48 and 308p.

Prime lambs averaged 307.5p and sold to £178 for Beltex from Headshaw, Lauder, and to 363.8p for Texels from Redden.

A mixed show of cast sheep peaked at £164 for a Texel bred ewe from Messrs Anderson, Headshaw, Lauder.

Lanark

Heifers from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, led proceedings at Lawrie and Symington's prime sale, when achieving 327p per kg and £2041.

Bullocks sold to 303p from Messrs Baillie, Calla, Carnwath, and to £1908 from Messrs Brown, Gaindykehead, Airdrie.

A larger show of 924 prime lambs reached £166 for Beltex from Messrs Cruickshank, Little Kype, Strathaven and to 359p for Texels from Messrs Renwick, Craig Douglas, Selkirk, to average 304p with a SQQ of 305p.

A mixed show of hoggs reached £152 for Suffolks from Messrs Nicol, Yardbent, Strathaven and to 250p for Beltex from Messrs Hamilton, Mis Shawtonhill, Strathaven, to level at 183p with a SQQ of 185p.

Texels led the cast ewes at £268 for J Dunlop, An-Glasach, Biggar, having balanced out at £95.55.

Carlisle

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington had a smaller entry of 49 prime steers and heifers forward, which sold to a top of £2386.25 for a 771 kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith.

Heifers witnessed a top call of £2294.63 and 331.5p per kg for a 725kg Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle.

Averages jumped on the week among the prime lambs having cashed in at 317.25p (+7p) with a SQQ of 320p. Trade peaked at £172 for a 50kg Texel cross from Josh Merrall, The Green, and to 387.8p for a pair of 41kg Beltex crosses from BS Hennessy, Orton Rigg.

Texel crosses also led the cast ewes at £192 for TJ Magee, Northern Ireland.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts had forward 957 prime and cast sheep, which sold to £245 for Texel cast sheep from Denty Texels.

Among the 799 new season lambs an average of 308.35p per kg was achieved, with Texels leading proceedings at £160.50 for Messrs Nicolson, Brockloch, and to 332.1p for Messrs Cowan, East Lanegate

Dingwall

Averages fell on the week at Dingwall and Highland Marts' weekly sale with bullocks and heifers cashing in at 267.6p per kg (-8.0p) and 265.0p (-12.2p) respectively.

Bullocks sold to 278.0p for a 675kg Charolais cross from Tore Mains, Tore and to £1893.60 for a 720kg Limousin cross from Lochend, Barrock.

A 660kg Charolais cross from Kincraig, Invergordon, led the heifer trade at 272.0p and £1795.20.

Among the 283 prime sheep, new season lambs (91) averaged 284.2p and sold to 307.0p for a pen of 43kg Texels from Lochdhu, Nairn and to £149 for a pair of 52.5kg Beltex crosses from Ousdale Farmhouse, Berriedale.

Feeding sheep (145) attained £166 for Beltex crosses from Kilcoy, Killearnan.
