A top price of 2500gns was achieved on five occasions at the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale at Carlisle, where fresh milkers averaged £1941.

First to achieve that price was two, third lactation British Friesian cows from WP Williamson, Barrowmoor, Colby, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, both of which sold to Ellis Bros, Warcop, Appleby-In-Westmorland.

Messrs Wilson’s Wreaywood herd from Wreay, Carlisle, also sold two at 2500gns each with the first Wreaywood Recoil Jodie, selling fresh in her second and giving 46kg. Sired by Peak Altarecoil, she sold to Baltier Farming Company, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.

Messrs Green and Son, Lach Dennis, Northwich, bought Wreaywood Reeve Goldie 39, a fresh heifer giving 36kg for the same money. She is by Mr Stone-Front Reeve Red.

The same stable also took 2450gns for Wreaywood Abro Patsy 57 which again sold to Baltier Farming Company. A daughter of Sandy-Valley Abro, she changed hands giving 45kg per day.

The last of the 2500gns bids was given for Liscabank Attico Rika Red 2 from AB and J Parkinson, Liscoe, Bodkin Lane, Preston. A daughter of Gen-I-Beq Attico Red, she was knocked down to Messrs Millar and Son, Kirkpatrick Fleming, Lockerbie.

Baltier purchased a further three at 2450gns each to include the freshly calved, Berryholme Secretariat Maud 4, from H Wright and Son, Berryholme, Kendal. She is sired by All Nure Secretariat.

Newcroft Attico Belle, from W and S Airey, Whittington, Carnforth, was another on the same lorry load. This freshly calved heifer by Gen-I-Beq-Attico-Red sold giving 32kg.

Baltier also bought Holehouse Tropic Dixie, a Peak Tropic-sired heifer at 2450gns from Holehouse farms, Kilbirnie.

Two other lots sold for 2450gns – Drumtall Chief Francisco from James Gray, Drumtall, East Kilbride, sold to Messrs Graham, Gretna, and Romanway Sassafras Amy 4 from Turnbull farming, Plumpton, Penrith, made the same money to Messrs Schug, Appleby-In-Westmorland. The former is by Stantons Chief with the latter being an ABS Sassafras daughter.
