Scottish genetics were behind record priced Highland cattle embryos sold by Bairnsley Highlands at the US National sale in Denver, Colorado, when they achieved AU$25,000.

Glen Hastie of Bairnsley Highland cattle had three Grade A embryos entered in the American Highland Cattle Association (AHCA) sale. The embryos, all sired by imported semen, made more than double the next highest priced lot.

The genetics were handpicked for the American market and featured Uallach Dubh 6 of Glasgow’s Pollok fold and the multiple Royal Highland Show champion Ruaridh 1 of Ubhaidh from King Charles’ Balmoral fold.

Both bulls have bred well in the UK and Australia with their progeny boasting several show titles and top prices.

All the embryos are from home-bred dams from Bairnsley.
