The inaugural Luing Cattle Society sale at Stirling proved a huge success with five bulls cashing in at £10,458 and with a 100% clearance rate.
Robert and Hazel McNee, Over Finlarg, Tealing, Dundee, topped the trade with two bulls selling at 14,000gns and 13,000gns, with both being sons of Backmuir Whisky, purchased at Castle Douglas for 7000gns from the Simmers family.
Dearest of the two was Finlarg Boss, an April 2022-born son of Finlarg Bonus Y17, which goes back to Lammermuir Tremendous. He sold up to Orkney with Brian Ridland, Aikerness
The couple who run 200 suckler cows, half of which are Luings, sold Finlarg Braveheart for 13,000gns to David and Craig Hamilton, Allanton, Darvel. Bred out of another Lammermuir Tremendous line, this March 2022-born entry is out of Finlarg Bracken.
Brother Andrew McNee and father Roy, Benhar, Woodend, Armadale, sold his red and white bull, Benhar Bobcat, for 12,000gns. This two-year-old is a son of Finlarg Zemen, and is the first bull calf produced by Benhar Tulip, a Harehead Lomu daughter. Alistair and Alan McLarty, Firm of Shawhead, Douglas, were the final bidders.
