A flying trade for breeding sheep at Carlisle on Monday, saw DJ Livingstone, Kirtlevale, produce the show and sale winners with two different lots.

Their champion winners, Texel hoggs with single lambs realised £238 per life. Later, similarly bred hoggs with single lambs from the same home sold for the top price of £260 per life.

Adding to the Kirtlevale celebrations, the farm also led the ewe and lamb trade at £270 per life for a Beltex with a single.

Judge, John Fell, awarded the reserve championship to Mule hoggs from James Harrison, Low House,which made £140.

Outwith the show, hoggs and lambs averaged £152.27 per life with ewes and lambs at £114.99.
