Stirling UA

Bullocks (640) and heifers (709) averaged 294.3p and 281.93p respectively at United Auctions' weekly store cattle sale.

Bullocks sold to 370.8p for a pair of 383kg Charolais crosses from Kilmux, and to £1980 for an 782kg Aberdeen Angus from Humbie.

A 337kg Aberdeen Angus led the heifers at 344.2p for East Balscalloch, whilst a 648kg Limousin realised £1800 for Nether Dalkeith.

Aberdeen Angus led the young bulls (27) at 294.3p for a 316kg entry from St Fort Estates, and to £1950 for an animal weighing 740kg from Newbank, to cash in at 266.64p.

The firm also sold 398 breeding cattle, which soared to £5600 for British Blue heifers with bull calves from Craig and Teen Malone, Pitcairn.

The same home sold heifers with heifer calves for £5400.

Topping the cows and calves was Limousins with bull calves from Lower Greenyards at £4000.

A small offering of 72 calves and stirks reached £1080 for a pair of Limousin cross bullock stirks from Messrs Hill, Drumfork, whilst heifers peaked at £1070 for a British Blue cross off East Barr Farm.

Calves sold to £580 for a British Blue cross bull from Messrs McCoull and Son, Over Enoch, and to £460 for an Aberdeen Angus cross heifer from Messrs Rennie, Brocklehill.

Heifers led the way at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of store cattle, when selling to 398p per kg for a 336kg Limousin cross from Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten, and to £1840 for 520kg Simmental crosses from Drodland, Newmill.

Heifers (598) averaged 296.7p whilst bullocks (672) cashed in at 310p.

Limousin crosses topped the bullocks at 395.2p for entries weighing 248kg from Birsebeg, Birse, and to £1745 for a 638kg animal from Mill of Meadaple, Rothienorman.

Penrith

A top price of £920 was achieved on three occasions at Penrith and District Farmers’ Marts' fortnightly sale of 208 rearing calves and stirks, firstly was a pair of Limousin bullocks and again for an Aberdeen Angus bullock all coming from EA and W Strong, Ploveriggs.

Limousins led the heifer trade at £900 for Messrs Strong, Ploveriggs.

Calves topped at £550 for a Charolais from Messrs Harrison, Penny Hill Park, with bulls following at £485 for Limousins from Messrs Todhunter, The Beeches.

On Monday, the firm held their fortnightly sale of store cattle, which topped at £1895 for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs MTP and SD Wills, Fawcett Park, the same home led the heifers at £1825.

The annual newfair sale of beef breeding cattle reached £2900 for a British Blue cross heifer with Limousin bull calf at foot, from CD Slinger and LJ Eaton, Holme, Sedbergh.

Lanark

An overall average of £115.00 was achieved at Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale of 2539 ewes and hoggs with lambs at foot.

Leading the sale was a pair of Cheviot ewes with Suffolk lambs from Kenny O’Connor and family, Woodside, which sold on behalf of RSABI, for £185.

The annual show and sale of 1145 hoggs with lambs at foot was judged by Tom Neill, Upper Tinwald, who awarded his champion pen to Scotch Mule hoggs and lambs from T laird and Son, Carbello and Sunnyside, which reached £157 to Messrs Graham, Greenshields.

Texel crosses from Allanton Farming, took the reserve ticket and later realised £167 when selling to Messrs Taylor, Dashwellgreen.

Ewes and lambs averaged £97.54 (+ £16.92 on the year), with gimmers and hoggs with lambs at £125.83 (+ £15.48) and £131.440 (+ £11.03) respectively.

A buoyant demand was met at Wallets Marts' store cattle sale, where heifers realised £1720 for Aberdeen Angus heifers from Palmallet Farms and to 322.1p per kg for Limousins from Boghouse.

Bullocks sold to 343.9p for Simmentals from Messrs Thomson, East Altercannoch, and to £1340 for Limousins from Barskeoch Mains.

Centre records were achieved at Monday's breeding cattle sale, when heifers with calves at foot sold to £5200 and £5000 for Limousin heifers with calves at foot from Messrs Hamilton, Derrie.

Topping the sale was £6500 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Hansell, Nether Barr.
